To add an Aqara thermostat to Apple Home, use the setup code and pairing instructions supplied with your device, then create a Home automation or Shortcuts rule that matches the temperature routine you want. Aqara’s current Apple Adaptive Temperature feature is highlighted for the Thermostat Hub W200; the steps below assume that model, but pairing prompts can vary by device and setup method.

Check that your HVAC system is compatible first

Before buying or installing the W200, check your system and wiring with Aqara’s W200 compatibility checker and installation guidance. Aqara lists line-voltage systems (110/220V), millivolt systems, and 0–10VDC systems as incompatible. Aqara says a C-Wire Adapter is sold separately if your installation needs one; it is not a universal requirement. If you are unsure about your wiring, consult a qualified installer rather than guessing from wire color.

How to add an Aqara thermostat to Apple Home

  1. Prepare the thermostat. Install and power it according to the instructions for your exact model. Keep its supplied setup code or QR code available.
  2. Start adding an accessory in Apple Home. Open the Home app, tap the add-accessory control, and follow the on-screen prompts to scan the code or enter it manually.
  3. Choose the code path specified for your device. Aqara documents separate Matter and HomeKit pairing paths: Matter uses the Matter QR code or Matter setup code; HomeKit uses the HomeKit QR code or HomeKit setup code. Use the code and prompts in the thermostat’s own instructions. Do not assume the two codes are interchangeable.
  4. Finish the room and home assignment. Follow Apple Home’s prompts to assign the thermostat to a room and complete setup. If Home requests a home hub or Thread controller for features in your configuration, use a compatible device and follow its prompts.

Aqara’s general Matter guidance names HomePod (2nd generation), HomePod mini, and Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or 3rd generation 128 GB) as Thread-enabled Matter controllers. This does not mean a hub is universally required just to begin pairing: the need depends on the protocol, Thread use, and the Apple Home features you want. See Aqara’s Apple Home pairing guidance for its documented code paths and controller notes.

Do you need Aqara Home too?

No, not for basic Apple Home control and automations when the thermostat has been added successfully. Aqara says its devices can be managed in both apps. Apple Home handles basic control and Home automations; Aqara Home may provide firmware updates, additional settings, or device-management options that Apple Home does not expose.

#1 Best Overall
Aqara Smart Thermostat W200 with Apple Adaptive Temperature
  • Apple Adaptive Temperature - With the Apple Home app, Adaptive Temperature uses your iPhone to adjust the thermostat based on activity states like 'home', 'sleep', 'away' and 'extended away'. This provides comfort upon arrival home and saves energy when away, without the complicated steps of creating or managing schedules. (Note: Adaptive Temperature requires a home hub (Apple TV or HomePod) and an iPhone or Apple Watch, all running version 26 or later.)
  • Apple Clean Energy Guidance: Smarter Energy Savings - With the Apple Home app, Clean Energy Guidance makes small temperature adjustments to use cleaner grid times when electricity may cost less, while maintaining comfort. The forecast is personalized for your home location using environmental and grid data. (Note: Clean Energy Guidance is available only in the contiguous U.S.)
  • Easy Installation with Wide HVAC Compatibility - Designed to fit most homes, W200 works with about 85% of HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers, and PTAC units. No C-wire? Simply add the Aqara C-Wire Adapter (sold separately) for stable power. We even include a trim kit to easily cover old wiring and keep your wall looking clean and fresh.
  • Functions as a Smart Display for Your Front Door - W200 works as a visual control panel for your Aqara video doorbell (only compatible with G410/G400, G4 excluded) and smart lock, showing visitor snapshots right on the screen and letting you unlock the door with a simple tap. No need to open an app on your phone or run to the door.
  • Control Your Climate Your Way: App, Voice Assistant, or One-Tap Button Control – You can manually adjust the temperature via the app, or through voice assistants like Alexa or Siri when connected. You can also use the W100 wireless sensor (sold separately) for quick one-tap physical control. Perfect for easy changes from the couch, bed, or anywhere in your home.

If you want to add the device through Aqara Home on iOS, Aqara’s developer guide says the app can guide you through binding a HomeKit device to Apple Home during setup. If you added a HomeKit accessory in Apple Home first, Aqara documents this path for later binding: Aqara Home > Me > HomeKit Info > HomeKit Binding. App labels can change; the path is from Aqara’s HomeKit Mode guide.

Choose the right kind of temperature automation

Apple Home offers standard automations triggered by time, location, an accessory’s action, or sensor detection. For more conditional logic, Apple’s Shortcuts guide shows a temperature example: “If the temperature is above 70º F, then turn on my fan.” That is a general example, not a W200-specific recipe. A rule can only use readings and target actions that your particular sensors, thermostat, and software expose.

Approach What triggers it Requirements and practical limits
Adaptive Temperature Household activity states such as home, sleep, away, and extended away For the W200 feature, Aqara specifies iPhone or Apple Watch software version 26 or later. Aqara’s Apple Home guidance also says all home members and the home hub must run version 26 or later. Availability of each state can depend on the account and setup.
Home automation Time, location, accessory action, or sensor detection Set up from Apple Home’s Add Automation interface. Apple requires a home hub for automation setup; Thread-based devices need a Thread-enabled home hub for automations, notifications, and away-from-home control.
Temperature condition in Shortcuts A supported temperature reading crosses a condition you define Use Shortcuts when the required temperature value and target action are available to the rule in your installation. Apple’s example is illustrative, not a guarantee that every thermostat exposes every temperature-control action.

Use Adaptive Temperature for supported activity-state adjustments, a time or occupancy automation for predictable routines, and Shortcuts for conditional temperature logic when the reading and action you need are exposed. Apple’s instructions for standard Home automations are in Use automations in Home on iPhone; its temperature-condition example is in Create a new home automation in Shortcuts.

Set up an automation in Apple Home

  1. In the Home app, open the add-automation interface and choose the trigger category that fits: time, people arriving or leaving, an accessory action, or a sensor detecting something.
  2. Choose the relevant time, person, accessory, or sensor, then continue through Apple Home’s prompts.
  3. Select the thermostat or other supported accessory action you want the automation to perform, if it is offered in your setup.
  4. Review the conditions and action, then save the automation. Test it under the trigger conditions you chose.

Apple’s automation setup requires a home hub. For Thread-based devices, Apple says a Thread-enabled home hub is needed for automations, notifications, and control while away from home. The exact automation options shown can vary with your accessories and software.

Can Apple Home change the thermostat when temperature crosses a threshold?

Apple’s Shortcuts guide documents temperature-threshold logic, but whether you can use it to change a particular thermostat depends on whether the temperature reading and the thermostat action are available to Shortcuts in your setup. Apple’s published example turns on a fan when the temperature is above 70º F; it does not establish that the W200 exposes a particular threshold control.

A separate Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor may provide temperature, humidity, and pressure readings and can work with HomeKit-enabled accessories, but Aqara says it requires an Aqara hub for HomeKit. The available product information does not establish that this sensor can be selected as the W200’s control sensor. Treat it as a possible independent sensor trigger, not a confirmed way to control the thermostat. See Aqara’s sensor product information.
