Set the YouTube-facing title and description in Castr when you connect through YouTube Events/API, or edit them in YouTube Studio if you connect with a manual stream key. Add the thumbnail in YouTube’s scheduling or live-stream management workflow—not in Castr’s destination form. A Castr project name is separate from the title viewers see on YouTube.
Choose how Castr connects to YouTube
Castr documents two ways to add YouTube as a destination: authorize through YouTube Events, or enter YouTube’s streaming server and stream key manually. The route matters because it determines where you manage metadata.

See Castr’s YouTube connection guide for its documented connection options. YouTube describes a stream key as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address”; keep it private and do not share it. Refer to YouTube’s live stream settings guidance for current controls. Labels and paths can vary with interface updates, account settings, or locale.
Add the YouTube title and description
If you connect through YouTube Events/API
- In Castr, create or open a live-stream project and add YouTube as a destination.
- Choose the YouTube Events/API connection and authorize the YouTube account if prompted.
- Select the channel or event Castr should use.
- Enter the title and description in the event or platform fields, then create the platform.
To edit metadata later, YouTube’s guidance says you can edit it during stream creation or scheduling, or use Edit in the stream settings in Live Control Room. Castr’s documented social metadata endpoint can update title and description for YouTube destinations connected through its dashboard using the YouTube API. Its listed fields do not include a thumbnail. Check Castr’s social metadata API documentation before relying on an API workflow.

If you connect with a manual stream key
- Open the YouTube stream or scheduled event and retrieve its server and stream key from the stream settings.
- In Castr, add YouTube as a destination and paste in the server and key.
- For the viewer-facing title and description, return to YouTube Studio and edit the stream’s details there. Castr’s guide directs manual-key users to YouTube’s dashboard for description edits.
Changing a Castr project name is not a substitute for changing YouTube metadata. Castr describes its project name separately from the YouTube event title and description. Its current start guide explains the project/dashboard setup: How to Start a Live Stream in Castr.
Add or change the thumbnail in YouTube
Use YouTube Studio’s scheduling or live-stream management workflow to set the custom thumbnail. Google’s production guidance places thumbnail setup in the scheduled-stream workflow; YouTube’s live settings guidance covers editing a stream’s settings. The reviewed Castr destination instructions do not show a thumbnail upload control, so do not expect the image to be set by entering a title in Castr.

- Open YouTube Studio and create or open the scheduled live stream associated with your Castr destination.
- In the stream’s details or scheduling workflow, add or replace its thumbnail using the available YouTube control.
- Save the change, then confirm the intended image appears on the YouTube stream listing or management page.
Google’s Full Live Production guide describes the scheduled-stream workflow. The exact controls may vary as YouTube updates Studio.
Check the result before going live
- Verify the title and thumbnail on the YouTube stream or scheduled event—not only in the Castr project dashboard.
- Confirm the selected YouTube event is the one receiving the Castr feed.
- Keep the stream key private; regenerate it in YouTube if it has been exposed.
- If the title appears unchanged, refresh the YouTube management page and confirm you edited the event connected to Castr.
