Make a short intermission video or graphic composition, add it to the same playlist as the cartoons at the point where the break should appear, and keep playlist looping enabled. The card plays as a normal item between cartoons; it does not require ending the continuous playout.
Make the intermission card
Use either a short video file or a composition built from a background loop, text, and a logo. A simple card might say “Be right back,” but choose wording that suits your stream and break length. A composition can be useful if you want motion behind the message without exporting a separate finished video.
Keep the card sponsor-free by leaving out paid promotions, sponsor logos, and ad copy. Before adding it to the playlist, preview both picture and sound in context so the transition and audio level make sense alongside the cartoons.
Recommended Free Tools
Insert it between cartoons in a playlist
- Open the playlist or rundown used for the continuous stream. The exact controls vary by playout tool.
- Add the intermission asset as a regular playlist item. In playout.video’s documented workflow, a jingle is also treated as a normal item, so the same placement approach applies to a break card. See Building and Managing Playlists.
- Move the item to the desired position between cartoon videos. For example, arrange the sequence as Cartoon 1 → Intermission → Cartoon 2.
- Check that looping is enabled if the playlist should continue after its last item. playout.video says looping is always enabled for 24/7 streaming and that playback restarts from the first video after reaching the last one; other tools may use different settings. See the playlist guide and Getting Started with playout.video.
- Preview the sequence before putting it on air. Check that the card appears between the intended cartoons and that its text, image, and audio are suitable.
What happens if you edit while the stream is running?
Playlist editing behavior is tool-specific. In playout.video, a change to a running playlist takes effect at the next video transition, not in the middle of the current video. Check the chosen tool’s documentation before assuming an edit will appear immediately or before changing an on-air sequence.

Choose cloud playout or local OBS
| Option | Where playback runs | What the cited source documents | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloud playlist playout | On a hosted service | playout.video documents playlist jingles and compositions; Upstream describes server-hosted looping playlists with stings or jingles between videos. Sources: playout.video playlist guide and Upstream. | Supported media and destinations, edit timing, current pricing, and the service’s operating requirements. |
| Local OBS playout | On your own computer using OBS | The 24/7 Playout project describes rundown management and OBS scene integration, with a Windows x64 release documented. Source: 24/7 Playout project. | Current project maintenance, OBS compatibility, required media formats, and the need to keep the computer and connection running. |
These descriptions come from the vendors or project publisher, not neutral reliability testing. The sources do not establish that either path will remain available through every platform outage or satisfy every platform’s duration limits.
Check content rights and destination rules
Adding a card does not grant permission to stream the cartoons. Confirm you have the necessary rights for each video and check the current rules of the platform receiving the stream. The cited playlist documentation does not establish licensing for any particular cartoon or guarantee that a destination permits a 24/7 broadcast.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The card does not appear between the intended cartoons: Check the playlist order and confirm you edited the playlist or rundown currently used by the live playout.
- Your playlist stops after the final cartoon: Check the tool’s loop setting. Do not assume another service uses the same default as playout.video.
- An on-air edit has not appeared yet: In playout.video, edits to a running playlist take effect at the next video transition. For another tool, consult its documentation for when changes are applied.
- The card looks or sounds wrong: Preview the complete sequence, including the transitions. Rework the composition or audio in the asset before relying on it in the running playlist.
- The stream is interrupted by a platform or rights issue: Playlist configuration cannot resolve outages, platform restrictions, or missing content rights. Check the destination’s current requirements and your permissions separately.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that plays uploaded videos rather than a live camera, StreamNeo can run a playlist from the cloud: upload the cartoons and intermission asset, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. For Indian creators, UPI works; card checkout is available worldwide. Start your free first day on StreamNeo.
