To add a scoreboard to a sports live stream, create a sport-specific scoreboard, copy its public display URL, and add that URL to your production software as a browser source. In OBS, use a Browser source; in vMix, use Add Input > Web Browser. Size it to your production canvas, layer it above the game video, and test score updates before the event. A separate phone, tablet, or computer can run the scoreboard controls.
How the scoreboard overlay works
The scoreboard service provides two things: a graphic for viewers and a control page for the scorekeeper. OBS, vMix, or another production tool loads the graphic from its URL and composites it over the camera feed. The production software—not the scoreboard service—combines the overlay and video into the program you send to your streaming destination.

When a service supplies separate links, use its public display or overlay URL in the production source. Keep the private control-page URL for the operator. Using the wrong link can expose controls or leave the graphic unable to receive the expected updates.

Choose fields that fit the sport
Select a scoreboard designed for the sport, then set up the teams, colors, and layout. Depending on the service and sport, fields may include score, clock, period, half, set, quarter, substitutions, player names, or sponsor graphics. Features differ by provider, so check that the fields you need are supported before building the event layout.
#1 Best Overall
- UNMATCHED 12CH INPUT FLEXIBILITY: Connect 8 cameras directly via HDMI (up to 4K60) or 3G-SDI (1080P60). 4 AUX channels support 4 NDI/SRT/RTMP IP (perfect for PTZ), 2 USB webcams, or 2 built-in MP4 players to play pre-recorded ads or run instant slow-motion replays without costly external devices.
- ROCK-SOLID HARDWARE STABILITY: Say goodbye to monitoring CPU usage, lag, dropped frames, and crashes. Unlike software mixers that limit the features you can run at once, our hardware video switcher utilizes dedicated FPGA processing to handle every feature simultaneously under full load, ensuring absolute stability.
- ISO REC & OUTPUT ROUTING: Record PGM & 8 ISO channels to SSD/CFexpress with zero dropped frames, and stream to 3 platforms. Route any of 12 inputs, PVW, PGM, MultiSource, or M/V to 4 assignable, ultra-low latency outputs (2 HDMI/2 SDI) for IMAG on LED walls, projectors, or confidence monitors.
- BROADCAST GRAPHICS & BRANDING: Overlay transparent graphics (scoreboards, tickers) directly from your PC (vMix, ProPresenter) via HDMI with Alpha-channel support. Run custom Stinger transitions using built-in media players—no expensive external hardware required.
- 5-LAYER MULTISOURCE & VIDEO EFFECTS: Build stunning TV-style layouts with our powerful MultiSource engine, featuring 4 customizable video windows and 1 still/motion background for talk shows, sports & webinars. Use 4 Upstream Keys for Chroma/PiP/LUMA, plus 2 DSKs for logos and lower thirds.
Know your canvas resolution
Check the production software’s base canvas resolution before adding the graphic. Set the browser source dimensions to match that canvas, then position the overlay where it remains legible without covering important action. For example, 1920 × 1080 pixels is a common full-HD canvas, but use it only if that is your actual production resolution.
Add the scoreboard in OBS Studio
- Create the scoreboard. In your scoreboard service, select the sport and configure the teams, colors, layout, and required fields.
- Copy the display link. Copy the public overlay or display URL, not the control-page URL, if the service provides separate links.
- Add a Browser source. In OBS, select the scene that will contain the graphic, click + in Sources, choose Browser, name the source, and paste in the display URL.
- Match the dimensions. Set the Browser source width and height to your OBS Base (Canvas) Resolution. Do not assume a full-HD size if your canvas uses a different resolution.
- Layer and position the graphic. Move the Browser source above the camera or video source in the Sources list. Position it, check that the text is readable, and lock it once it is in place to avoid accidental movement.
- Test remote scorekeeping. Open the service’s control panel on a separate device or browser. Change the score and clock, then confirm the program preview updates.
- Rehearse before the event. Run a private or unlisted test stream. Check source visibility, score controls, network access, and the fields used for the sport.
Add the scoreboard in vMix
- Create or open the scoreboard in its service and copy the public display URL.
- In vMix, choose Add Input, open Web Browser, paste the URL, and add the input.
- Activate the input with a numbered overlay button so it appears over the program video.
- Open the input’s Position settings to move, zoom, or crop the graphic. Check that the result remains readable and does not obscure the action.
- Run the control panel from a separate computer, phone, or tablet if you want the scorekeeper to update the game without operating vMix.
For vMix-specific setup and positioning steps, see KeepTheScore’s vMix scoreboard guide.
Using another streaming or production tool
A URL-based overlay may work in other tools that accept a web URL, but support depends on both the production software and the scoreboard provider. OBScoreboard lists OBS Studio, vMix, Streamlabs, Wirecast, YoloBox, Ecamm Live, and XSplit on its integrations page. Treat that as the provider’s compatibility information and check its current instructions for your software version. Hardware switchers may use a different overlay workflow or link format; do not assume they handle browser transparency the same way OBS does.
Test before you go live
- Confirm the display source is visible and sits above the game video in the layer order.
- Check the graphic at the actual output resolution and at the size viewers will see it.
- Change a score and clock value from the operator’s control panel and confirm the program output reflects the update.
- Verify the selected sport’s period, set, or other fields before the match begins.
- Check network access from the production computer, particularly if the venue uses restricted Wi-Fi.
- Rehearse in a private or unlisted stream so a source, layout, or control issue is found before the public broadcast.
Fix common scoreboard overlay problems
Nothing appears
Check that the source or input is enabled, visible, and above the video layer. Verify that you pasted the display URL correctly and that the production computer can reach the overlay page.
The overlay is the wrong size, blurry, or cropped
Set the source dimensions to match the actual canvas or output resolution. Reset unintended transforms, then resize and reposition the graphic. Avoid stretching it disproportionately, which can make text or logos difficult to read.

The score does not change
Confirm the operator is using the scoreboard’s control panel and that the production source uses the display URL, not the control URL. Check that both devices have network access. If the link is correct and the panel is connected, try refreshing or reloading the source.
The background is black or transparency looks wrong
Check the scoreboard provider’s transparency instructions and the production tool’s web-source settings. Do not assume a hardware switcher handles transparency like OBS; confirm its own overlay workflow.

vMix loads slowly or fails to load the page
Check connectivity and firewall access. A wired network connection, closing unnecessary browser tabs, and checking graphics or browser settings are practical troubleshooting steps suggested in KeepTheScore’s vMix guide; they are not guaranteed fixes.

StreamNeo is for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos; it does not create a camera-based sports broadcast or add a scoreboard overlay. For the production method above, the overlay still needs to be composited in OBS, vMix, or another compatible production tool. If you also want a pre-recorded YouTube stream to keep running without a computer at home, StreamNeo runs it from the cloud: nothing has to stay on at home, uploaded video streams as made up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
