Add a short invitation and your channel’s membership link to the livestream description. YouTube recommends adding /join to the end of your channel URL, then placing that link in a video description so viewers can open the membership window. Name only perks your channel actually offers, and avoid fixed tier prices unless you can keep them accurate for viewers in different regions and on different platforms.
How to add a membership pitch to your livestream description
- Confirm memberships are enabled. Check that your channel has an active membership offer and that the perks you plan to mention are available. YouTube describes memberships as monthly payments in exchange for creator-provided perks. YouTube’s channel memberships overview explains the program.
- Make the direct membership link. Copy your channel URL and append
/join. Use your actual channel URL; do not substitute a guessed link. YouTube says this route takes viewers to the channel’s membership window. See YouTube’s membership promotion guidance. - Edit the livestream description. In YouTube Studio, open the livestream’s details and add a brief invitation with the link. YouTube lists video descriptions as a place to promote memberships.
- Save and verify. Open the public watch page and check that the invitation is readable and the link opens as intended. For scheduled streams or streams with format-specific metadata, verify the saved description on the actual public watch page.
Put the pitch after the stream’s essential identification or viewing information. That keeps the invitation visible without pushing the details returning viewers need out of the way.
What to write in the pitch
Explain what membership is, why you are inviting viewers to join, and what they receive. YouTube lists examples such as badges, emoji, early access, and members-only content, but the benefits depend on the channel’s actual offer. Its membership tips also recommend considering the work and cost of delivering perks.

Continuous streaming does not by itself mean members receive special access or support. Do not promise personal replies, exclusive 24/7 access, or any other benefit unless it is genuinely included and you can deliver it. Avoid fixed tier prices in evergreen copy unless you have checked that they are right for the intended audience and will keep them current; YouTube notes that membership prices can vary by platform and country or region.

Horizontal livestreams and vertical live feeds
YouTube’s live-format feature table distinguishes horizontal streams from the vertical live feed. It lists clickable links in chat and the channel description for horizontal live streams, but not for the vertical live feed; memberships are listed for both formats. The table describes format features generally and does not guarantee how a particular channel, stream configuration, or viewer app will display a description. This distinction concerns links in chat and the channel description. It does not establish that every description link will render identically in every viewing context. A clear description link remains useful, especially when the Join button is not visible to a viewer.

When viewers cannot see Join
The Join button is not available to every viewer in every situation. YouTube lists possible reasons including memberships being turned off, the viewer being in a region where memberships are unavailable, a video being marked made for kids, or Join not being available on a particular platform or eligible watch page. When the issue is platform-specific, YouTube suggests viewers try the channel homepage or the /join link in the description. The link cannot override membership eligibility or regional availability.
