To show a live target for YouTube memberships on a 24/7 stream, use a third-party overlay such as Streamlabs’ Sub Goal widget. YouTube’s documented native live goals cover Super Chats and, on eligible vertical live streams, gifts—not membership counts. Configure the widget for YouTube Members and/or Gifted Members, then add it to your streaming software as a widget or browser source. Test it in your continuous-stream setup: the available instructions do not guarantee that a widget will update indefinitely.
Choose the goal you actually want
A membership goal, a Super Chat goal, and a link asking viewers to join are different things. Decide whether you want an on-screen count of new memberships, a native YouTube goal for another event type, or simply a direct path to the membership offer.

YouTube lists memberships and gifted memberships as available in horizontal and vertical live formats, subject to feature eligibility. That availability is separate from which events its native Goals tool can count. Check the current eligibility and format details in YouTube’s live-stream feature table and Goals documentation.

Set up a Streamlabs membership goal widget
Streamlabs documents a Sub Goal widget for YouTube Members and Gifted Members. Its setup instructions were last updated October 2, 2025; labels may change, so use the current controls shown in your account if they differ.

- Open Streamlabs’ Sub Goal widget setup. Start from the Streamlabs Sub Goal instructions or its Goals Widgets page.
- Choose YouTube events. In the platform or event settings, select YouTube Members, Gifted Members, or both, depending on which memberships should count toward the displayed target.
- Set the goal details. Enter a title, target amount, starting amount, and end date. Pick values that match the period you intend the goal to cover; the starting amount determines the progress shown when the goal begins.
- Customize and save. Adjust the widget’s appearance so it remains legible over your stream video, then save the configuration.
- Add it to the stream. Use the widget source in Streamlabs Desktop, or copy the widget URL and add it as a browser source in compatible streaming software such as OBS. YouTube describes encoders as a way to stream overlays as well as gameplay and hardware inputs in its live-streaming overview.
- Verify it before relying on it. Confirm that the goal is visible in the intended scene and that its count updates as expected. Check what happens when the encoder or stream reconnects and when a broadcast is restarted. The widget documentation does not establish uninterrupted 24/7 operation across every setup.
Promote memberships without a counter
If you only need viewers to find the membership offer, YouTube lets creators append /join to their channel URL and share that link in stream descriptions and other channel surfaces. For example, add /join to your channel’s URL rather than treating the link as a goal widget. See YouTube’s instructions for promoting a channel memberships program.
StreamElements documents live pop-up alerts for new YouTube members and browser-source overlays. Those alerts can notify viewers when a membership event occurs, but StreamElements’ described “Memberships goal” updates video descriptions; it is not evidence of a live membership progress bar.
