Use two separate pieces: schedule an upcoming live event in YouTube Studio so viewers can find its watch page and set reminders, then put the countdown graphic in the video your encoder sends. Scheduling alone does not add a timer to the stream image. For a continuous 24/7 feed, decide whether you need one uninterrupted broadcast or a series of separate events before you build the schedule.
What the schedule does—and what the countdown does
A scheduled YouTube live stream creates an upcoming event page that you can share; viewers can also get reminders. YouTube Help describes scheduling as a way to promote the stream, not as a way to place a timer over the outgoing video. The countdown must be part of the audiovisual signal: compose it in your encoder or render it into the video source the encoder plays. See YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions and live-streaming overview.
That distinction matters for a lofi radio channel: the event page is where viewers find the scheduled broadcast, while the countdown is visible only if it is included in the picture sent to YouTube.

- Choose how the video will be produced. Use the encoder that already sends your lofi loop if it can composite a graphic. Otherwise, make a video file with the countdown and schedule built into it, then use that as the encoder’s source. YouTube documents encoder streaming, but does not certify a particular countdown widget or overlay product.
- Create the event in YouTube Studio. Open Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule Stream, then create a new stream or reuse settings. Check the current labels in Live Control Room because interface wording can change. YouTube’s scheduled event page can be shared and supports viewer reminders.
- Connect the encoder. If the encoder offers YouTube as a destination, select it and follow its connection flow. Otherwise, copy the Live server URL from YouTube into the encoder’s server field and paste the stream key into its stream-key field. Keep the key private; anyone with access may be able to send video to your channel.
- Build the countdown into the outgoing picture. For a one-time countdown before the music begins, prepare a countdown scene or clip and switch to the regular lofi scene or loop when it ends. For countdowns that recur at set times, arrange the scenes or source files to change at those times. This switching is production work; do not assume the YouTube event page changes the video image for you.
- Preview both parts before going live. In Studio, confirm the scheduled watch page and its event details. In the encoder preview, check that the countdown and schedule are legible and that the lofi feed follows them as intended. YouTube’s encoder workflow recommends waiting for the preview before starting a scheduled stream.
Choose between one continuous broadcast and separate events
“24/7” can mean one uninterrupted broadcast or a channel that runs continuously while individual programs are presented as separate scheduled events. Those are different setups. YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes a stream (the incoming video signal) from a broadcast (the viewer-facing event). Its documentation describes reusing one stream resource for scheduled broadcasts and also a pattern where a separate event broadcast is made live alongside a continuous broadcast. These are API-level patterns, not a guarantee that a Studio control will create every desired transition or overlay. See Understanding broadcasts and streams and the LiveBroadcasts API reference.

One uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast
Use this when the priority is a single continuously running lofi feed. A countdown can appear at the start or recur within the video production, but the stream itself remains the same broadcast. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not promise that one uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will be available as a single automatic archive. If replay availability matters, plan and verify a shorter-event or other archive workflow in the current Studio interface.
A schedule of distinct events
Use separate broadcasts when viewers need distinct event pages, start times, or archives for specific programs. The API documentation describes scheduled broadcast resources bound to a stream, with only one event live at a time in that recurring-event pattern. For an event presented during an ongoing 24/7 feed, the API also documents a second broadcast against the same stream while the continuous broadcast remains live; completing the event broadcast does not stop the continuous feed. Treat these as implementation patterns for API users, not ordinary Studio setup steps.

The API reference also says that if snippet.scheduledEndTime is omitted, the broadcast is treated as continuing indefinitely. It exposes auto-start and auto-stop settings as well. These settings do not generate a countdown graphic; they govern broadcast behavior at the API level.
Keep the stream running: local setup or cloud
Local encoder
A local encoder gives you direct control over the countdown’s placement and scene timing, and is a natural fit if your lofi feed already runs from a computer or hardware encoder. The originating setup must remain connected and functioning, and you are responsible for the graphic and transitions.

Troubleshoot the common setup failures
- The scheduled page exists, but there is no countdown on screen. The page and video are separate. Add the graphic to the encoder composition or render it into the source video, then inspect the encoder preview.
- The encoder will not connect. Check that the Live server URL and stream key were copied into the correct fields, and confirm that you selected the intended YouTube destination. Treat the stream key as private.
- The countdown appears at the wrong time or never switches to the lofi loop. Check the production’s scene or clip order and its timing. The YouTube event page does not perform the scene change.
- You expected a full replay of a continuous 24/7 stream. YouTube Help’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours. Do not assume a longer uninterrupted broadcast will be archived as one replay; use a deliberate shorter-event/archive plan and verify the current Studio behavior.
- You need an event page during a continuous feed. A viewer-facing event alongside a continuous broadcast is described in the Live Streaming API documentation. It is an API-level pattern; confirm that your chosen workflow can manage the separate broadcasts rather than assuming a standard Studio event automatically handles it.
Before announcing the stream
- Confirm that you have permission to use the music, artwork, and any other material in the lofi video. A live format does not remove copyright obligations.
- Check that the scheduled watch page shows the intended title, start time, and details, and share that page rather than an encoder preview.
- Preview the countdown on the actual video output, including the transition into the regular feed.
- Decide whether you need one uninterrupted live broadcast or separate scheduled events, especially if replays matter.
