Build the clock and weather display as a transparent web page, then add it to your OBS scene as a Browser Source. The page supplies the clock and weather; OBS renders it over your lofi artwork. You can load a local HTML file or a hosted page, and the same basic approach works on OBS’s official Windows, macOS, and Linux packages. [OBS Project documentation]
What you need
- OBS Studio, with your lofi scene and YouTube stream already configured.
- A web page that displays a clock and weather. It can be a local HTML file you maintain or a hosted page you can edit remotely.
- A weather data source configured for the location, timezone, and units you want to show. The steps below use Open-Meteo as the documented example; it is the page code or overlay provider—not OBS itself—that requests and formats the weather.
OBS describes Browser Source as one of its most versatile sources. It can display a local file or a URL inside a scene, and its default CSS makes the page background transparent, removes margins, and hides overflow. [OBS Project documentation]
Choose the location, timezone, and units
Decide which place the weather represents and make that city or location clear in the overlay. Configure the weather request with that location’s latitude and longitude, an explicit timezone, and the desired temperature unit. Open-Meteo documents current-weather fields including temperature, apparent temperature, weather code, precipitation, cloud cover, and wind. Its timezone parameter defaults to GMT; it also supports auto, which resolves a timezone from the coordinates. [Open-Meteo API documentation]
Recommended Free Tools
Do not present the weather as an instantaneous reading from a local sensor. Open-Meteo says its current conditions are based on 15-minute weather-model data. A sensible label is “Current conditions” or “Current model conditions,” accompanied by the named location and units. [Open-Meteo API documentation]

Build the overlay page
Create or configure one web page that draws the clock and weather on a transparent background. Keep the page’s dimensions close to the overlay’s intended layout, and refresh the clock display regularly enough to remain readable as time passes. The weather portion should request a small set of useful current fields and render them in a compact format; refreshing the page display more often does not make the underlying model data more current.
For weather failures, decide what the page should show if a request times out or the service cannot be reached. A graceful fallback can hide the weather value or show the time of the last successful update. This is implementation guidance, not an automatic Browser Source recovery feature.

Local file or hosted page?
| Option | Useful when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Local HTML file | You want to control the code and keep the overlay independent of a third-party overlay host. | You must update the file on the machine running OBS. OBS supports loading a local file in Browser Source. [OBS Project documentation] |
| Hosted page | You want to update the page remotely. | The overlay depends on both network access and the hosting service being available. OBS supports loading a URL in Browser Source. [OBS Project documentation] |
If Open-Meteo is used commercially, review its current access and licensing terms. Its API reference says an API key is required for commercial use of reserved API resources; that does not mean every commercial use needs a key or that all usage is free. [Open-Meteo API documentation]
Add the page to your OBS scene
- In OBS, select the scene that contains the lofi artwork.
- In the Sources panel, add a Browser Source.
- Choose Local file and select your HTML page, or enter the hosted page’s URL.
- Set the Browser Source width and height to match the dimensions for which you designed the overlay.
- Position and scale the source over the scene. Keep it clear of important artwork and avoid the parts of the video where YouTube player controls may appear.
- Preview the scene and verify the displayed location, timezone, clock, temperature units, and weather. Confirm the background is transparent so the lofi artwork remains visible.
Browser Source also offers source-refresh options and controls for unloading it when hidden or refreshing it when a scene becomes active. For an always-on scene, keep the source visible and review those settings against your scene setup. The documentation describes the controls; it does not promise automatic recovery from a failed page or guarantee long-running reliability. [OBS Project documentation]

Check the 24/7 YouTube broadcast separately
The overlay is only one part of the setup. YouTube distinguishes the liveStream, which carries incoming audio and video, from the viewer-facing liveBroadcast. Google’s guide explicitly discusses a 24/7 feed: one stream can be bound to as many as three broadcasts. In the API, a broadcast without a scheduled end time is treated as continuing indefinitely; this describes the broadcast resource, not a guarantee that the stream will remain uninterrupted. [YouTube Live Streaming API: Life of a Broadcast] [YouTube Live Streaming API: Broadcasts and streams]
Check stream health and broadcast state in YouTube Studio or your encoder workflow. YouTube’s API exposes archive, DVR, auto-start, auto-stop, and latency choices as separate settings. Its API documentation says DVR is enabled by default for a new broadcast; to have archived playback available immediately after the broadcast, both archive and DVR need to be enabled. Decide deliberately whether replay and interactive latency matter. The API reference notes that ultra-low latency does not support closed captions or resolutions above 1080p. Ending a long-running broadcast affects its archive and may require a new broadcast resource or a restart process. Keep the overlay readable and dependable
- Use high-contrast text and a restrained typeface so the clock remains legible at phone size.
- Keep the display small and stable; the clock and weather are supplemental to the lofi scene.
- Show the location and units so viewers can interpret the weather.
- Use an intentional weather refresh cadence. More frequent polling can make the display update more often, but Open-Meteo’s current conditions are still based on 15-minute model data. [Open-Meteo API documentation]
- Test what viewers will see if the hosted page, network, or weather request fails. Do not assume OBS will automatically repair a broken page.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The page appears with an opaque background. | The page itself is drawing a background, or the overlay has not been configured for transparency. | Check the page’s background styling and preview it in OBS over the lofi artwork. OBS Browser Source’s documented default CSS is transparent, but page styling can affect what is rendered. [OBS Project documentation] |
| The clock shows the wrong time. | The page is using a timezone different from the intended location. | Set the intended timezone explicitly and confirm the location label. Open-Meteo’s timezone parameter otherwise defaults to GMT. [Open-Meteo API documentation] |
| The weather is missing or stale. | The remote request may have failed, or the page may not be displaying its last successful update clearly. | Check the page’s request and fallback behavior; consider hiding the value or displaying its last successful update time when a request fails. |
| The overlay is cropped or misplaced. | The Browser Source viewport and page layout may have different dimensions, or the source may be positioned poorly. | Match the source width and height to the designed page dimensions, then reposition and scale it in the scene. |
| The overlay stops updating after changing scenes. | The Browser Source may be unloaded while hidden or may need a refresh when the scene becomes active. | Review the source’s unload-when-hidden and refresh-when-active controls. These controls do not guarantee recovery from every failure. [OBS Project documentation] |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the YouTube lofi stream to keep running without leaving your home computer or OBS machine on, StreamNeo is a cloud option for uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. StreamNeo is for YouTube only and does not go live from a camera.
