Use an OBS Browser Source to place a clock-and-weather panel over your nature footage. Load the overlay from a web URL or a local HTML file, size it to its intended canvas, and put it above the video in the Sources list. For a 24/7 stream, also account for the overlay’s dependencies: a local page can still need internet access and a weather API, while a hosted page depends on its host.
Choose how to provide the overlay
OBS’s Browser Source can load a web page by URL or a local HTML file. OBS Project describes it as one of its most versatile sources. The right choice depends on whether you want only a clock, need live weather, and are comfortable maintaining a page or plugin.

Community examples include a local page configured with an OpenWeatherMap API key, city, and units, with time-only, temperature-only, and combined display modes. Another example uses WeatherAPI and says it refreshes every 10 minutes. Those are implementation examples, not assurances about current API pricing, quotas, terms, or availability; check the provider’s current conditions before using an API-backed widget continuously.
An OBS forum listing also describes a weather plugin that fetches OpenWeather data, supports custom HTML/CSS/JS themes, and renders through Browser Source. It is a third-party option, not an OBS endorsement. Verify that it works with your OBS version and review its maintenance activity and permissions before depending on it for an always-on stream.

Add the clock or weather panel in OBS
- Select your nature scene. In OBS, open the scene that contains the nature footage.
- Add a Browser Source. In the Sources dock, select the add-source control and choose Browser. Give the source a clear name, such as “Clock and weather,” then confirm.
- Load the overlay. For a hosted widget, enter its URL. For a local clock or weather page, enable the local-file option and select the HTML file. A local file keeps the page itself on the streaming computer; it does not remove the internet and API dependency of a weather page that fetches remote data.
- Set the viewport size. Enter a width and height matching the overlay’s designed canvas or intended bounding area. OBS’s default Browser Source viewport is 800 by 600 pixels, which may not match your video canvas or widget. Resize or crop only as the design requires.
- Place it above the footage. In Sources, move the overlay above the nature video source. Higher sources appear over lower ones. Drag it to an uncluttered part of the preview and leave enough space from the frame edge.
- Check readability and settings. Preview the scene at its intended output size. Use clear contrast, restrained opacity or a small background plate, and padding from the edge. Confirm the time zone and 12- or 24-hour display, along with the weather location and units; these controls vary by widget.
Keep the overlay working during a continuous stream
In the Browser Source properties, OBS provides controls to refresh the source cache and to refresh when a scene becomes active. It also offers Shutdown source when not visible, which unloads the page while the source is hidden. Leave the source visible if it needs to keep running in the active nature scene; if you use scene changes, test how your chosen page behaves when it is unloaded and reloaded.
A remote overlay URL relies on the host being available. A local HTML file remains on your computer, but weather data fetched from an API still relies on the network and provider. Test the selected overlay after an internet interruption and an OBS restart. If weather stops loading, a clock-only display or static label can serve as a fallback; this is a practical fallback to prepare, not a built-in guarantee of the example widgets.

Check the stream before leaving it unattended
- Confirm the overlay is visible above the footage and is not clipped by its Browser Source dimensions.
- Verify the displayed location, units, time zone, and 12- or 24-hour format.
- Check whether the page needs an API key and review that provider’s current terms and limits.
- Test reload and recovery behavior for your actual overlay rather than assuming a third-party page or plugin will recover reliably.
- Make sure the video and overlay remain visually legible together; avoid covering the main subject of the nature scene.
