In OBS Studio, add your sermon video as a source, then place an Image source for the church logo and a Text source for service times above it in the scene. Connect OBS to YouTube with the stream URL and stream key, preview the result, and plan around YouTube’s stated archive limit: streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24/7 stream needs an operating plan beyond one event.
Prepare the logo and service-time text
Use a clear logo image; a transparent-background file can sit cleanly over video. Keep the logo and service times away from the preacher, captions, and other important content. Use concise wording that remains readable at the actual stream size. These are practical layout recommendations, not YouTube requirements.
Decide whether the times are fixed or change regularly. If they change weekly, plan how someone will update them before the next stream rather than relying on an old schedule.

Add the logo and service times in OBS
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, a scene is the collection of sources that makes up the outgoing picture. Add or select the scene that contains the sermon video.
- Add the logo. In the Sources dock, select the plus button, choose Image, and select the church logo file.
- Add the service times. Use the Sources dock’s plus button again and choose Text. Enter the schedule in the text source. OBS text sources can also read text from a file, which can make regular edits easier.
- Set the layer order and position. Sources higher in OBS’s source list appear in front of lower sources. Put the logo and text above the sermon video, then drag them into position and resize them in the preview. Check the composition at the stream canvas dimensions so the overlays are not cut off or too small.
- Check any file-based text. If the text source reads from a file, verify its path and formatting on the computer that will run OBS. Test an edit and confirm the preview changes before depending on this method during a service.

Connect OBS to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream in Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that event into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube describes the key as the encoder’s credential: “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep it private; reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Start the encoder and wait for the stream to appear in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview before making it public or relying on it for a service.

Test the complete stream before relying on it
Set up and test ahead of the service rather than discovering a layout or connection problem on air. OBS recommends a short test stream, and YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview and monitoring the broadcast.
- Confirm the logo is visible, correctly positioned, and not covering the preacher or captions.
- Read the service times on the actual stream, not just in the OBS preview.
- Check picture and sound, and confirm the watch page is accessible.
- View playback on a computer and a phone; text that appears adequate on a monitor may be difficult to read on a smaller display.

Plan the 24/7 schedule and archive separately
YouTube’s encoder instructions state that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that a single event running beyond 12 hours will produce a complete archive. For an always-on channel, decide how live events will be scheduled or rotated and how the church will preserve any recordings it needs. Check the channel’s current Live Control Room behavior rather than assuming one 24-hour event will be archived in full.

Choose the right kind of overlay
- OBS image and text sources: A direct fit for a fixed logo and service times placed over the sermon video. The source order gives control over what appears in front; text can be typed into OBS or read from a file.
- Browser-based overlay: Consider this when the graphics already exist as a web page and the encoder supports using a browser source. Confirm that the page renders correctly on the streaming computer before the broadcast.
- YouTube break overlay: YouTube’s overlay URL is associated with its break feature, an away slate. It is not a general-purpose, always-on church logo and service-times overlay.
For an HDMI camera, a capture card may be useful only if the computer encoder lacks a compatible camera input. It is not required just to add a logo or text; OBS supports video capture sources, and YouTube’s encoder guidance also discusses advanced setups involving cameras, microphones, mixers, and hardware encoders. Common problems and fixes
- The logo or text is hidden: Move its source above the sermon video in the OBS Sources list.
- The overlay is clipped or hard to read: Reposition or resize it in the preview and check at the actual canvas dimensions and on a phone.
- Updated service times do not appear: If using a text file, confirm OBS is reading the intended file path and that the saved text is formatted as expected; verify the change in the preview.
- YouTube does not show an incoming picture: Check that OBS has the correct stream URL and private stream key for the event in Live Control Room.
- The stream is visible in OBS but the public watch page is unavailable: Check the Live Control Room preview and event visibility or scheduling settings, then verify the watch page before announcing the service.
- The archive is incomplete or missing after an all-day stream: YouTube states automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours; its cited instructions do not establish the outcome for longer events. Check Live Control Room and use a schedule or recording plan that does not depend on one over-12-hour archive.
