To add a charity donation goal to a YouTube live stream, create and publish a YouTube Giving fundraiser in YouTube Studio, choose an eligible nonprofit, set the goal and duration, and attach the scheduled live stream. The native feature is not available to every channel or in every location; if you do not see it in Studio, check YouTube’s current eligibility guidance before choosing an external fundraiser.
What a YouTube Giving goal does
YouTube Giving lets eligible creators raise money for an available nonprofit through a fundraiser connected to videos or live streams. The fundraiser can show a goal and progress toward it. It is different from Super Chat: YouTube’s current live-chat fundraising feature is called Live Chat Donations, and the fundraiser also has a Donate button on the video watch page.
A fundraiser goal is not a creator-set gift target or a promise that viewers will donate. The progress reflects money raised for the fundraiser across participating channels and videos.
Check whether your channel and charity are eligible
Creator requirements
YouTube lists these requirements for creators: the channel must be based in a supported location, have at least 10,000 subscribers, be in the YouTube Partner Program, and not be designated Made for Kids. YouTube notes that some channels may see the feature outside the published criteria, so check YouTube Studio > Earn > Giving rather than relying only on the listed threshold. YouTube’s current setup-location list includes Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Montenegro, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Availability can change; consult YouTube’s linked guidance for the latest list.
Nonprofit requirements
The selected charity must be an available US-registered 501(c)(3) public charity. YouTube says eligible nonprofits must also belong to Google for Nonprofits, opt into online fundraising through GuideStar, and comply with YouTube policies. Private foundations are not currently supported. If a nonprofit is missing, it may not meet these requirements, may appear under a different public name, or may have opted out. Create the fundraiser and attach your scheduled live stream
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Open Earn > Giving, then choose Get started > Create a fundraiser.
- Select an available nonprofit. If it is not listed, use the nonprofit request option and verify that it meets YouTube’s requirements.
- Enter the fundraiser title and description, and add collaborators if relevant. Choose a goal amount and duration. YouTube says these settings can be changed later.
- Add the scheduled live stream that should display the fundraiser.
- Review the details and select Publish.
You can also set up a fundraiser while preparing a stream: in Live Control Room > Advanced Settings, configure the fundraiser during stream setup. YouTube’s instructions are at YouTube Giving: eligibility and setup.
When viewers see Donate
The Donate button becomes visible after the fundraiser’s start date. Viewers can find it on the video watch page; with live chat enabled, they can also use Live Chat Donations in chat. On mobile, the live-chat donation control requires live chat to be enabled and the device to be in portrait orientation.

YouTube’s general livestream guidance also says a channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days to livestream. That is a livestreaming prerequisite, not a separate YouTube Giving eligibility rule. See YouTube’s live-streaming guidance.
Fix a missing Donate button
- The fundraiser has not started: Confirm it was published and that its start date has arrived.
- The stream is not attached: In the Giving tab, check that the scheduled live stream is included in the fundraiser.
- The video or channel is Made for Kids: YouTube removes the Donate button for content with this audience designation.
- Mobile viewers cannot find the chat control: Make sure live chat is enabled and have viewers check in portrait orientation. The watch-page Donate button is a separate way to access the fundraiser.
- You cannot create a fundraiser: Check channel location, Partner Program status, subscriber eligibility, audience designation, and whether the feature appears in Studio. Also verify that the nonprofit is available and eligible.
Edit the goal and understand where donations go
You can edit campaign details, change the goal amount, or remove the fundraiser from the Giving tab. YouTube says it works with Network for Good to collect and distribute funds. According to YouTube Help’s “YouTube Giving FAQs,” 100% of donations go to the nonprofit, and YouTube covers credit-card transaction fees. YouTube says distributions are typically monthly, or annually if less than $10 was raised. These are YouTube’s stated policies; check its current Giving guidance for updates.

If YouTube Giving is unavailable
Google for Nonprofits guidance suggests that creators who cannot use YouTube Giving can link to an external fundraiser from a video end screen; GoFundMe and JustGiving are examples. This sends viewers to a separate destination. It is not a native YouTube Giving campaign, does not create YouTube’s in-chat Donate control, and may have its own eligibility and terms.
