WooPayments, Stripe for WooCommerce, and Square for WooCommerce document ways to add wallet payments; which buttons appear depends on the gateway, merchant eligibility, checkout setup, and the customer’s device and wallet.
Choose a WooCommerce gateway that supports the wallets you want
Wallet payments are enabled through an online payment gateway extension—not a physical card reader. Compare options against your country and currency eligibility, supported wallet brands, domain-verification process, checkout compatibility, and whether another plugin already displays express checkout buttons.
| Gateway route | Documented wallet options | Setup and eligibility notes |
|---|---|---|
| WooPayments | Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link by Stripe, and WooPay. WooPayments express checkouts. | Apple Pay and Google Pay share a setting. Availability depends on factors including customer device, browser, account, region, product, and checkout conditions. WooPayments handles Apple Pay domain verification. Express checkout setup; Apple Pay details. |
| Stripe for WooCommerce | Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link by Stripe as express checkout methods. Stripe for WooCommerce documentation. | The site must use a valid SSL certificate and HTTPS throughout. Apple Pay and Google Pay are enabled together; Amazon Pay has merchant-country and currency conditions. Stripe setup; Payment-method details. |
| Square for WooCommerce | Apple Pay and Google Pay. Square for WooCommerce documentation. | The extension lists supported store countries and currencies, and can create the Apple Pay domain association file. Square logs can help check verification. Square setup and eligibility. |
These sources do not establish which processor has the lowest fees for a particular business. Fees and approval depend on location, business, currency, and account terms; check the provider’s current terms before choosing.
Enable Apple Pay and Google Pay with WooPayments
- In the WordPress dashboard, open Payments > Settings.
- Find Express Checkouts and enable Apple Pay / Google Pay. The two methods are toggled together.
- Save the settings, then check the cart, checkout, and product pages where you want express checkout buttons to appear. Button locations can be configured in gateway settings. See WooPayments express checkout instructions.
WooPayments sets up Apple Pay domain verification as part of its process. That does not guarantee that every visitor sees a button: wallet availability and checkout conditions still apply. Apple Pay for WooPayments.

Meet the conditions for wallet buttons to appear
A setting can be enabled correctly while a shopper still sees no wallet button. Check the relevant conditions rather than assuming the integration failed:
- HTTPS: The Stripe WooCommerce extension requires a valid SSL certificate and the entire site to use HTTPS. Stripe for WooCommerce setup.
- Customer device, browser, and wallet: Apple Pay requires a supported device and browser plus a supported card. Google Pay requires the customer to be signed in to a Google account with a payment method added. Apple Pay requirements; Google Pay requirements.
- Merchant location and currency: Wallet support varies by gateway and merchant eligibility. Square’s extension documentation lists support for stores in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, France, Spain, and Australia, using USD, GBP, CAD, EUR, or AUD. These are the extension’s stated conditions; confirm current eligibility in its live documentation.
- Product and checkout configuration: Product type, guest-checkout or account settings, active theme, and support for WooCommerce hooks can affect whether and where a button appears. Consult the relevant gateway’s instructions for your setup: WooPayments and Stripe payment methods.
Use Stripe or Square instead of WooPayments
Stripe for WooCommerce
If Stripe is your chosen gateway, configure its methods in WooCommerce > Settings > Payments > Stripe > Payment Methods. Apple Pay and Google Pay are controlled together in the extension. Do not assume that every method shown in a Stripe account is supported by the WooCommerce extension; check the extension documentation and your account and country eligibility. Stripe for WooCommerce; Stripe payment methods.

Test on an eligible device
WooPayments recommends enabling test mode and testing from a supported device. Its Apple Pay test flow uses payment details from the tester’s real Apple account without making an actual charge. For Google Pay troubleshooting, WooPayments recommends test mode, logging, and reviewing WooCommerce status logs. Follow the instructions for Apple Pay and Google Pay; a button appearing in one environment does not establish that it will appear for every shopper.

Fix duplicate wallet buttons
If two sets of wallet buttons appear, check whether multiple payment extensions are adding express checkout options. WooCommerce notes that using WooPayments and its Stripe extension together can duplicate Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay buttons. Disable the duplicated method in one extension as appropriate. WooPayments compatibility guidance.
Account for gateway-specific setup
WooCommerce’s Apple Pay guide covers multiple gateway integrations; some may require manual server certification or other gateway-specific configuration. WooCommerce recommends WooPayments for most stores and notes that configuration outside its documented support path may require a developer.
