Its pitch combines physical space, interconnection, and operations rather than treating colocation as rack rental alone.
What QTS means by hybrid cloud
Hybrid cloud usually describes an environment in which an organization uses more than one infrastructure model—for example, private or colocated equipment alongside public-cloud services. QTS’s positioning is that these components can coexist: workloads and data remain on physical infrastructure where needed, while network connections provide paths to cloud services and other destinations.
QTS’s current solutions portfolio spans multi-tenant and single-tenant data centers, campuses, enterprise and hyperscale solutions, and federal environments. The company emphasizes scale, connectivity, and converged security. These are QTS’s descriptions of its offer, not independent comparative rankings of providers.
Examples of hybrid solutions
QTS specifically describes gaming solutions that blend cloud, colocation, and managed services, and retail solutions that integrate cloud and managed services with flexible data centers. Those examples illustrate possible combinations; they do not establish that every customer receives the same architecture or managed-service scope.

What sits beyond the rack
QTS’s colocation brochure, published in 2021, describes cabinets, cages, private suites, configurable power, redundant power options, and deployment and troubleshooting support. It also describes remote-hands assistance. Confirm current availability, specifications, and service terms for the particular facility rather than treating a dated brochure as a present-day commitment.
The physical footprint matters because hybrid-cloud designs still depend on where equipment can be installed, how much power it can draw, and how it can expand. A provider’s general portfolio description does not answer whether a particular site has the cabinet, cage, suite, density, or expansion capacity a workload needs.
How QTS describes connectivity
Connectivity is central to the QTS hybrid-cloud proposition. QTS says its interconnection ecosystem can reach public clouds, carriers, internet exchanges, and other QTS facilities. Its 2024 Switchboard product sheet describes virtual connections to AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud, as well as connections between QTS facilities and other network destinations.

What Switchboard is
QTS describes Switchboard as a one-port, multiple-destination model with self-service provisioning for virtual connections. The product sheet also describes QTS internetConnect, a managed blended internet service. These are vendor product descriptions, not a guarantee that every destination or configuration is available in every facility.
For a real deployment, the important question is not simply whether a provider names a cloud platform. Ask whether the specific QTS facility can reach the required cloud region or endpoint, what connection types and port options are available, and whether the proposed path meets the application’s bandwidth, latency, and resilience needs. Public product summaries do not establish the route a particular customer will receive.
How QTS frames operational management
QTS presents its Service Delivery Platform as an interface for operational control across a hybrid IT environment. The 2021 colocation brochure lists asset management, online ordering, remote assistance, and power and environmental visibility. QTS also publishes API documentation for programmatic management of QTS resources.

The operational proposition is relevant when an organization needs to track equipment, request support, or integrate provider tasks into its own workflows. However, the brochure’s age means customers should verify current capabilities, workflows, API coverage, support hours, and any associated service levels directly with QTS.
What the Lumen partnership adds
On October 28, 2025, QTS announced an expanded strategic partnership with Lumen. The QTS announcement describes Lumen as a partner for fiber deployment, Switchboard network-as-a-service and software-defined networking, connectivity fabric, and wavelength backbone infrastructure. It also discusses cloud and AI on-ramps and planned connections to new QTS campuses.

Planned network build-outs and stated benefits should likewise be read as announced intentions and company claims, not independently verified results.

How to evaluate QTS for a hybrid-cloud deployment
QTS’s public materials explain the shape of its offer, but they do not settle customer-specific availability, pricing, lead times, contract flexibility, or service-level commitments. Use a facility-specific evaluation rather than relying on a general hybrid-cloud label.
- Cloud reach: Ask which cloud providers, regions, and endpoints can be reached from the target facility, and through which direct or virtual connection products.
- Network design: Request documentation of bandwidth options, carrier choices, route diversity, inter-facility paths, and failover arrangements. A named partner or broad network footprint does not by itself establish the path or resilience of a particular service.
- Physical deployment: Confirm cabinet, cage, or suite availability, power density, redundant power options, and room to expand.
- Operations: Establish what remote hands and support cover, how provisioning works, what telemetry is available, and whether asset tools or APIs cover the tasks your team needs.
- Commercial and contractual fit: Obtain facility-specific availability and lead times, pricing, contract terms, and written service-level commitments.
How QTS’s positioning compares with other colocation providers
For a useful comparison, evaluate each provider against the same deployment requirements instead of treating “hybrid cloud” as a standardized product. QTS’s materials point to the following decision areas:
Quick Recap
| Comparison area | What to establish | What QTS’s public materials say |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud reach | Facility-specific cloud endpoints, regions, and connection methods | Switchboard materials describe connections to AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud; facility coverage and customer-specific availability are not established by the general product sheet. |
| Network design | Bandwidth, carrier options, route diversity, inter-facility connectivity, and failover | QTS describes an interconnection ecosystem and its Lumen partnership; the customer’s actual routes and resilience require facility-specific confirmation. |
| Physical deployment | Space type, power density, redundancy, and expansion options | The 2021 brochure describes cabinets, cages, suites, and power options; current inventory and terms are not stated in that brochure. |
| Operations | Remote support, provisioning, telemetry, asset management, and APIs | The 2021 brochure describes platform features and remote hands, while QTS publishes API documentation; current scope and service coverage should be confirmed. |
| Commercial terms | Availability, lead time, price, service levels, and contract flexibility | Not stated in the public materials cited here; request a customer-specific proposal and contractual commitments. |
