A QR-to-print service can let a customer scan a code, upload a document in a phone browser, choose print settings and pay, while a Windows computer at the cafe relays the job to its printer. One vendor, Echel, describes that workflow and says it removes files after printing. Those are the vendor’s product claims, not verified details of the author’s own build or proof that every copy of a file is erased.
How the QR-to-print flow works
In Echel’s published description, each shop has a QR code. A customer scans it with a phone, opens a browser page, uploads a PDF or photo, selects print settings and pays online or at the counter. A Windows print-relay agent running on the shop computer passes the job to a printer installed on that computer. Echel describes this workflow on its service site.
- Scan: The customer uses a phone camera to open the shop’s QR-linked page.
- Upload and configure: The customer submits a PDF or photo and chooses available print settings.
- Pay: Payment can be online or at the counter, according to the vendor.
- Print: The shop computer’s relay agent sends the job to its installed printer.
The vendor says customers do not need to install an app, sign up or create an account; a phone camera and browser are enough. That describes Echel’s service and should not be read as a verified feature of a separate, independently built pipeline.
What the shop needs
The workflow still depends on a physical printer and a computer to run the relay. Echel says its agent works with printers already installed on a Windows PC, including inkjet and laser printers. Its description does not establish that a new printer, a Wi-Fi printer or a particular model is required. Compatibility beyond the vendor’s claim is not independently established here.

- A Windows computer running the vendor’s print-relay agent.
- A printer installed on that computer.
What “auto-delete after print” means
Echel’s privacy policy says uploaded print files are held until the relay sends the job to the printer, then removed after printing. It also says unpaid or unprinted jobs are cleared automatically. These statements describe the vendor’s published policy, last updated July 2026; they do not independently verify deletion from every cache, backup, device or printer spool. The policy says the service retains job metadata, including job ID and time, page count, copies, colour, payment status and whether the file was cleared. It says a shop can see its own logs, not document contents. Removing an uploaded file is therefore not the same as retaining no record of a print job.

Print-file deletion is not cyber cafe record deletion
India’s Information Technology (Guidelines for Cyber Cafe) Rules, 2011, issued in the Gazette on 11 April 2011, address separate records. They require user identity to be established and specify at least one year of retention for identity-document records and the log register. They also specify one-year backups of browsing history and proxy-server logs. Deleting a print upload does not remove those obligations. See the 2011 rules.

What a cafe should verify before relying on a service
A vendor’s deletion policy is useful information, but it is not the same as a verified guarantee about every system involved. A cafe evaluating a QR-print workflow should establish how its own relay, computer, printer and records are handled, and keep print-job handling separate from legally required cafe records.

- Confirm the printer is installed on the Windows computer that runs the relay and that the exact printer model is supported.
- Find out what happens when a customer does not pay, a job never reaches the printer or printing fails; Echel says unpaid or unprinted jobs are cleared automatically, but its public statement does not establish the timing or recovery procedure.
- Review what job metadata the shop can access and how long it is retained.
- Do not treat deletion of the uploaded document as deletion of the cafe’s identity, browsing or proxy records required under the 2011 rules.
- For sensitive documents, consider the shared computer and printer’s own handling and storage as well as the upload service’s stated policy.
