A committee constituted by the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) conducts a public ceremony using a hand-operated draw machine; the public may check the machine before the draw. National Savings publishes the winning numbers. The official description explains this public procedure, but does not establish a technical randomization algorithm or independent audit.
How an ordinary prize bond draw works
- Check the draw schedule. National Savings publishes draw dates and results by denomination. Find the applicable date and draw number on the Prize Bonds page; schedules can change.
- Confirm the bond is eligible. National Savings says an ordinary bond must have been issued at least 60 days before the draw. It describes the 60 days before a draw as a “shut period,” when sales of that denomination stop through the State Bank and other authorized organizations. Eligibility therefore depends on the bond’s issue date and the particular draw, not just whether you own a bond of that denomination.
- The public ceremony selects numbers. National Savings says a CDNS-constituted committee holds the draw, open to the public. A hand-operated draw machine is used and is usually operated by special children in front of the committee and attending public; the public may check the machine before the draw starts. The State Bank of Pakistan also describes the ceremony in its National Prize Bonds FAQs.
- Check the official result. Match the bond number against the result list for the correct denomination and draw date. Use National Savings’ Download Draws page rather than relying on a prediction or an unofficial checker.
What “fair and transparent” means—and what is not established
The official account describes visible safeguards: a public ceremony, a committee, a hand-operated machine, and an opportunity for the public to inspect the machine before the draw. Those details describe how the event is conducted; they are not, by themselves, a technical explanation of how the machine ensures randomness.
The official material cited here does not specify a randomization algorithm, machine certification, or an independent audit report. It therefore supports describing the draw as a public procedure, but not claiming that a particular algorithm or independent audit has verified it. National Savings’ FAQ also says there is no way to ensure that a purchased bond will win.
How winning chances work
Holding more eligible bonds gives you more entries in the draw and increases your chance compared with holding fewer eligible bonds. It does not guarantee a prize, and there is no reliable way to predict a winning number from earlier results. National Savings lists 999,999 numbers in an ordinary bond series, but that figure alone is not enough to calculate a holder’s overall odds: the current prize tiers and complete eligible-series details are also needed.

Ordinary and Premium Prize Bonds use different payment processes
Do not apply the ordinary-bond claim process to registered Premium Prize Bonds. National Savings currently lists ordinary denominations of Rs. 100, Rs. 200, Rs. 750 and Rs. 1,500, alongside registered Premium Prize Bonds of Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 40,000. Denominations and product terms can change, so check the current schedule and product information.
| Feature | Ordinary prize bonds | Premium Prize Bonds (Registered) |
|---|---|---|
| Ownership | Bearer instrument; possession of the bond is central to a claim, according to National Savings’ FAQ. | Registered in the investor’s name, according to the Premium Prize Bond page. |
| Draw eligibility | National Savings states an ordinary bond must be issued at least 60 days before the draw. | The applicable cutoff is set by the Premium Prize Bond Rules; check the current rules for the bond and draw. |
| Prize payment | The holder claims a prize using the ordinary-bond procedure and documents described below. | Normal prize money is credited directly to the investor’s bank account; the National Savings page says no application form is needed for normal prize or profit credit. |
| Other return and draw schedule | Profit payment: not stated in the ordinary-bond information cited here. Check current official terms. | Quarterly prize draws and biannual profit payments are described by National Savings; confirm current terms before relying on them. |
How to claim an ordinary winning bond
National Savings says a claim may generally be lodged after about three or four working days and must be made within six years of the relevant draw. Its FAQ gives slightly different processing waits elsewhere, so check the current instructions before travelling or submitting documents.
- Claim form.
- Valid CNIC copy.
- Original winning bond.
- Signed photocopy of the winning bond.
The FAQ says claims up to Rs. 1,250 can be lodged at National Savings Centres, authorized scheduled-bank branches, or State Bank branches. Claims above Rs. 1,250 are made only at State Bank branches. These thresholds and procedures may change; confirm them with the current National Savings FAQ before filing.

When checked in 2026, National Savings showed withholding tax on prize money at 15% for filers and 30% for non-filers. Treat these as the rates shown by the official source at that time, not permanent rates; verify the current notice on the Prize Bonds page before estimating what you will receive. The same page and FAQ are the appropriate places to confirm denominations, schedules, and claim instructions for a particular draw.
