Prime Video shows several kinds of access in one catalog, but not everything you see is included with a Prime membership. Some titles are included, while others require a rental or purchase, a paid channel subscription, or a pay-per-view payment. Check the title or event details before confirming a charge.
What’s included with Prime Video, and what costs extra?
Amazon’s US Prime Video help page identifies five access types: titles included with Prime, rentals, purchases, add-on subscriptions, and pay-per-view events. The last four can involve a separate payment; pay-per-view is available only where offered. Amazon’s overview of what you can watch explains the categories.

How included titles work
An eligible Prime Video membership covers streaming titles that Amazon marks as included with Prime. Amazon says members can stream those titles at no additional cost. That does not mean every title displayed in the app or search results is included: the catalog changes as titles are added and removed. Check the current title page for its access label and any charge before pressing play.

How rentals and purchases differ
Rent a title for temporary access
A rental is a separate one-time transaction, and Amazon says Prime Video members and non-members can rent offered titles. Rental access is limited, but Amazon’s overview does not set one universal rental window. Read the individual title’s details for its viewing period and any deadline, including what applies after you start watching.

Buy a title for account-based digital access
A purchase is also a separate one-time transaction, available for offered titles to both members and non-members. Amazon describes purchased titles as “yours to keep.” Treat that as an account-based digital purchase entitlement: it is not a transfer of copyright and does not promise that you can download the title permanently.
How add-on channels work
Add-on subscriptions provide access to third-party premium networks and other streaming channels. They cost extra on top of a Prime Video membership and are recurring subscriptions, rather than one-time payments for individual titles. Amazon says you pay for the add-ons you choose and can cancel at any time. Most add-ons have a free trial where available, but a trial is not guaranteed for every channel or account; check the current offer, price, and renewal details before subscribing. How to check a title before you watch
- Open the title or event’s detail page and check whether it is included with Prime, offered to rent or buy, available through a channel, or sold as pay-per-view.
- Review the current price and availability shown there. Catalog inclusion and offers can change.
- For a rental, check the title-specific viewing period and expiration details before starting it.
- For an add-on, review its recurring price, trial eligibility, and renewal information before confirming the subscription.
- Confirm the payment method and total at checkout before placing the order.
Payment options depend on marketplace and account context. Amazon’s US help pages list card and Amazon account-based options for subscriptions and rentals or purchases, but the available methods are shown at checkout. For rentals and purchases, the card’s address needs to match the customer’s marketplace. Amazon also documents an iOS-specific case in which Apple payment settings are used. Prime Video can be accessed in several ways. On a Fire TV device, Amazon documents opening Prime Video from the home screen, searching, or using the app; search results may include Prime Video add-ons and other supported providers. How to check an unexpected charge
Compare the transaction with your membership, add-on subscriptions, rental, and purchase activity to identify what it covers. Membership and add-on renewals can fall on different dates, so a charge may not coincide with the membership renewal. Review the relevant subscription or order details in your account to check the amount and timing.
