Trade credits usually are not cash you can withdraw: they may be restricted to a specific account or promotion, and the rules vary by platform. In Kalshi’s Predictions account, displayed Credit is nonwithdrawable and is already included in Cash. Fees apply when trades execute, while the amount you can withdraw can be lower than your displayed cash because of open positions, settlement, or deposit holds. The platform’s terms and your account’s withdrawal screen determine what applies to you.

What does trade credit mean?

“Trade credit” is not a universal prediction-market balance type. It can refer to a promotional award, referral reward, or a platform’s displayed credit balance. Those labels do not, by themselves, tell you whether the credit can be withdrawn, where it can be used, or when it expires. Check the offer terms and the account where the credit appears.

Kalshi Predictions: displayed Credit

Kalshi says the Credit shown in a Predictions portfolio is nonwithdrawable and already included in Cash. Do not add the two figures together. Kalshi also notes that the displayed Credit balance is not a complete history of credits issued. Its portfolio guide describes the figure shown on the account page, not necessarily the conditions attached to every award.

Kalshi Perps promotions

Perpetuals promotions have their own eligibility rules and offer dates. Kalshi says Perps credits stay in the Perps account, cannot be transferred to Predictions, and cannot themselves be withdrawn; unused credits may expire after seven days unless the offer specifies otherwise. Winnings from trades made with those credits can be withdrawn. Because qualification windows and terms are offer-specific, use the promotion screen or email as the authority for a particular credit. See Kalshi’s Perps promotions terms.

Referral credits

Referral rewards are a separate case. Kalshi’s referral FAQ says only profits earned using referral credits become withdrawable cash, and credits generally expire seven days after issuance unless otherwise specified. The current amount and requirements appear in Rewards; eligibility and terms depend on the specific offer.

Why are cash, credit, and portfolio value different?

These figures describe different things. In Kalshi Predictions, displayed Credit is included in Cash, while portfolio value also includes the displayed value of open positions. As a result, portfolio value is not the same as cash available to withdraw.

An open position’s displayed value is not guaranteed sale proceeds. To turn a position into cash, a buyer must be available at an acceptable price. A sell order can fill partially or not at all; a limit sell sets the minimum price you will accept but does not guarantee a sale. Only the amount actually sold becomes sale proceeds. Kalshi puts it plainly: “Selling and withdrawing are separate actions.” The portfolio guide explains these account figures and directs users to the withdrawal screen for their available amount.

When do prediction-market trading fees apply?

Fees depend on the platform, market, and order execution. For Kalshi, the help article dated April 19, 2026 says transaction fees are charged on expected contract earnings, with different fees for some markets, including certain special events. Some resting orders may also incur maker fees when they execute. Placing an order is not the same as completing a trade: Kalshi says canceling an unfilled resting order does not incur a fee.

Before submitting, check the fee shown for that market and trade, along with the current fee schedule. Do not assume one fee rate applies to every Kalshi market—or to other prediction-market platforms. The platform’s fee explanation describes its own rules.

Why can’t I withdraw the full displayed balance?

The amount available to withdraw can be lower than cash or portfolio value for several reasons:

  • Open positions: Money committed to positions is unavailable until the positions close. A position’s displayed value is not cash until a sale executes or it settles.
  • Settlement: Funds associated with unresolved positions may not yet be available as settled, withdrawable funds.
  • Deposit security holds: Some deposits are held before withdrawal. Kalshi’s guide dated August 14, 2026 says the maximum hold depends on the deposit and withdrawal methods. The withdrawal screen shows the release time for the account. Holds apply to the original deposited amount; earnings beyond deposits may be withdrawn once settled.
  • Nonwithdrawable credit: A credit balance may be displayed as part of cash without being eligible for withdrawal itself. The specific credit terms control.

Kalshi’s security-hold guide covers deposit holds. Check the withdrawal screen for the amount currently available rather than using portfolio value as a withdrawal estimate.

Which withdrawal method and limit apply?

Kalshi’s stated methods, availability, and timing differ. Its help guidance dated August 24, 2026 gives these general expectations; actual timing depends on the account, processor, bank, and applicable regional support.

Method Availability and fee Typical timing Limit or hold details
Bank withdrawal Available to US users; Kalshi states it charges no withdrawal fee. Typically a few business days. Recently deposited funds may be subject to a short security hold. The account withdrawal screen provides the applicable availability.
Debit-card withdrawal Kalshi states there is no Kalshi withdrawal fee; availability for US and international users depends on supported regions and processors. Typically a few hours, but timing can vary. The daily limit is personalized to the account and can increase with account activity. Kalshi does not state one universal dollar cap; check the withdrawal screen.

Check the account and offer before relying on a credit

  1. Identify the account. Kalshi has separate Predictions and Perps accounts; balances and position calculations differ. Do not assume a credit in one can be used in the other.
  2. Open the offer terms. Confirm eligibility, permitted use, expiry, and whether the credit itself or only profits can be withdrawn.
  3. Check the trade’s fee details. Review the fee displayed for the particular market and order before submitting; a platform-wide assumption may not fit a market-specific fee.
  4. Check available withdrawal funds. Use the account’s withdrawal screen for the amount and timing currently applicable, including any hold or personalized limit.

Rules and fees can change. These examples describe Kalshi’s official guidance as of the dates cited above; they should not be applied to Polymarket or prediction markets generally. For any platform, its current terms and account screens control.
