For most Galaxy S25 owners who stream media, back up photos and videos, and do not keep several large games installed, 256GB is a reasonable choice. Choose 512GB if you keep lots of files or downloads on the phone, record high-resolution video frequently, or want more room before you need to transfer or delete anything.
Is 256GB enough for the Galaxy S25?
It can be, if you mainly stream movies and music, regularly back up photos and videos, and are comfortable removing or transferring files when needed. Storage needs depend on what you keep on the phone, rather than a universal threshold Samsung sets for a particular kind of owner.
Samsung’s US listing for the 256GB Galaxy S25 reports 226.8GB of available storage. That figure applies to that US product listing; it is not a promise that every regional model or software state will show the same amount. How should video recording affect your choice?
Samsung’s US product specification lists video recording up to UHD 8K (7680 × 4320) at 30fps. That is a supported recording mode, not a guide to how long a particular amount of storage will last: the cited specification does not state file sizes per minute. Can an external drive replace the 512GB model?
The cited Samsung US specification lists a USB Type-C interface. A compatible external drive may be useful for transferring or archiving files, but it does not increase the Galaxy S25’s built-in storage. How to compare the price difference
There is no generally applicable current price premium established for the 512GB model: the difference depends on market, seller, and promotion. Compare local listings for the exact Galaxy S25 model and both capacities, then weigh the upgrade cost against how long you expect to keep the phone and how often you are willing to manage files. Do not assume a past promotion is still available.
