Airbnb says its AI agent handles nearly 30% of support tickets in North America that are in English, according to CEO Brian Chesky on the company’s February 12, 2026 earnings call. That is a company-reported figure for a specific region and language—not one-third of every Airbnb support request worldwide.

What Airbnb’s “nearly 30%” figure measures

On Airbnb’s February 12, 2026 Q4 2025 earnings call, Chesky said: “Right now, nearly 30% of tickets in North America that are English-based are handled by an AI agent.” The wording matters: the measure concerns tickets, is limited to North America, and covers English-language support. Airbnb did not provide a ticket-type breakdown or a full methodology alongside the statement. Airbnb’s earnings materials include the call transcript.

How that differs from Airbnb’s newer 45% figure

In its Q2 2026 results, published in September 2026, Airbnb reported that nearly 45% of issues that start with its AI Assistant were resolved without a human agent. The denominator is issues that begin with the assistant—not all support tickets—so this is not an updated claim that AI handles 45% of Airbnb tickets. Airbnb’s footnote says the comparison used third-party benchmarking conducted in March and April 2026 across six major US travel-platform AI support assistants. Airbnb’s Q2 2026 results provide that qualification.

The company has also reported a separate outcome: its US assistant reduced people’s need to contact a human agent by around 15%, according to Airbnb’s Q3 2025 results. A reduction in human contacts is not the same measure as the share of tickets handled by AI or the share of assistant-started issues resolved without a person. Airbnb’s Q3 2025 results describe the earlier figure.

What Airbnb’s AI Assistant can do

Airbnb says a user may chat with an AI Assistant when contacting Support. It can draw on Help Center articles and information about the user’s account, listings, or reservations. The company says it is intended to handle routine issues and answer questions about Airbnb’s services; it may also connect the user with a human support-team member. See Airbnb’s Support AI Assistant help article for its description of the feature.

Can you speak to a real person?

Airbnb says the assistant may connect a user with a human support-team member. The official description does not establish that every issue will be escalated or specify a universal route or response time. If you need a person, ask the assistant to connect you with support or use the support options shown in your Airbnb account.

Can Airbnb’s AI give incorrect answers?

Yes. Airbnb warns that the assistant sometimes makes mistakes and may provide inaccurate or irrelevant information. For important account, reservation, or listing decisions, check relevant Help Center resources or contact support rather than relying on an answer that seems uncertain. Airbnb also says professional guidance may be appropriate for tax or legal questions. The warning appears in its Support AI Assistant help article.

What Airbnb said it hoped to expand

On the February 2026 earnings call, Chesky described a conditional goal: if the rollout succeeded, Airbnb expected significantly more than 30% of tickets to be handled in more languages where it had live agents, and said it expected to add voice alongside chat. Those were forward-looking plans expressed at that time. The Q2 2026 resolution figure does not, by itself, confirm that broader language coverage or voice support had launched.

What the figures do not tell you

The published figures show different aspects of automation, but they do not establish which ticket categories the AI can reliably handle, how often its answers are wrong, or a complete method for calculating the ticket-handling share. Airbnb’s Support article itself acknowledges possible mistakes; the materials cited here do not provide an independently audited error rate. Treat the percentages as company-reported measures with their stated scopes, not as proof that a comparable share of every customer problem is fully resolved by AI.
