CameraFi Live has no single fixed data-use figure: your phone’s outgoing stream bitrate and the time you stay live determine the estimate. A sustained total bitrate of 1 Mbps uses about 0.45 decimal GB per hour before network overhead. For example, a 4 Mbps total stream uses about 1.8 GB per hour, or 5.4 GB over three hours.
Estimate data use from bitrate and duration
Use the total outgoing bitrate, including video and audio—not the quality viewers select when watching. The calculation is:
Estimated data in decimal GB = total bitrate in Mbps × 0.45 × hours streamed
The 0.45 factor comes from converting a sustained megabit per second to bytes over an hour: 1 Mbps transfers about 450,000,000 bytes in an hour, or 0.45 decimal GB. This is a unit-conversion estimate, not a measurement of CameraFi Live or a carrier’s billing total.

For example, a three-hour stream at a total bitrate of 4 Mbps is about 4 × 0.45 × 3 = 5.4 GB before overhead. Your actual device or carrier total can differ because of bitrate variation, protocol overhead, reconnects, and other app activity.
Examples using YouTube’s recommended encoder bitrates
YouTube lists video bitrate recommendations separately from its recommended 128 Kbps stereo audio bitrate. The following estimates add that audio rate to the H.264 video rate, then apply the hourly conversion. They are settings-based estimates, not measured CameraFi Live cellular usage. YouTube’s live encoder guidance notes that recommendations depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate.

These examples are not guarantees that every phone or CameraFi Live version offers those settings. CameraFi says available resolutions and frame rates vary by device; see its CameraFi Live product information. Higher resolution or frame rate generally calls for a higher recommended bitrate, so data use rises when the stream bitrate rises.
Choose a bitrate that fits your connection and data allowance
Check upload speed, not download speed
The stream is sent from your phone to YouTube, so upload capacity matters. CameraFi Live’s official guidance recommends setting bitrate at about 75% of available upload speed, leaving headroom for a more stable connection. Balance image quality against data
A lower bitrate uses less data, but can reduce visual quality. Compare the total bitrate, including audio, with how long you plan to stream and the upload speed and stability at the location. There is no single best resolution or bitrate for every phone or kind of video.
Use one stable network connection
CameraFi advises using one connection rather than leaving Wi-Fi and mobile data enabled together, since switching connections can disconnect a stream. Before an event, test with representative audio and movement, then watch YouTube’s stream health while live. YouTube’s guidance says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”

What the estimate includes—and what it does not
- It estimates the phone’s upload. The relevant bitrate is the outgoing stream’s total rate, not a viewer’s playback quality.
- YouTube transcoding does not change the phone-side calculation. YouTube creates different output formats for viewers; estimate the upload from the stream sent by the phone.
- It is not a carrier bill prediction. Decimal GB arithmetic, network overhead, rate changes, reconnects, and unrelated app activity can affect reported usage.
- It is not a published CameraFi per-hour statistic. The official guidance does not give one fixed CameraFi Live data figure.
