There is no universal RAM requirement for a website screenshot MCP server. The official Playwright MCP documentation does not publish a per-session memory figure or a parallel-capture benchmark. Measure peak memory using your chosen browser, representative websites and screenshot settings, and the number of browser sessions you expect to run at once.
Why there is no single RAM number
A screenshot MCP server’s memory use depends on the browser engine, the pages it loads, the capture mode and scale, and how many browser sessions are active simultaneously. The Playwright MCP documentation describes these configurable behaviors but does not translate them into a memory allowance. Avoid treating an unmeasured per-browser estimate as an official requirement.
Count active browser sessions, not merely screenshot tool calls. A client may reuse a browser session or create separate sessions; confirm how your particular server and client configuration handles calls before planning capacity.
Which capture settings affect your workload?
Playwright MCP supports viewport, selected-element, and full-page screenshots. Full-page capture cannot be combined with a target element. Output formats include PNG, JPEG, and WebP, and screenshot scale can be set to CSS pixels or device pixels. These choices define different jobs, but the documentation does not state how much RAM each one consumes. Playwright MCP project documentation

How to size memory for your deployment
- Confirm session behavior. Determine whether parallel tool calls share a browser session or start separate sessions, and whether session state must persist between jobs.
- Define the workload. List the browser engine, viewport dimensions, screenshot format and scale, capture scope (viewport, element, or full page), and the kinds of sites your server will visit.
- Run captures at planned concurrency. Use representative pages and settings, increasing the number of simultaneously active browser sessions to the level you expect in production.
- Measure peak resident memory. Monitor the browser processes as well as the container or host during the runs. Record the peak for the whole workload rather than relying on a single idle reading or simple test page.
- Repeat with the expected workload mix. Include heavier pages, full-page captures, and the session-state behavior you intend to use. Keep operational headroom based on the peaks you actually observe.

Isolate parallel clients and choose profile persistence deliberately
The Playwright MCP project recommends starting each additional parallel client with --isolated or a distinct --user-data-dir. Isolated mode keeps the profile in memory rather than saving it to disk, and session storage is lost when that browser closes. Choose the mode that matches your state and isolation needs, then include it in your memory test. Playwright MCP project guidance

- Memory climbs as concurrency rises: verify the number of active browser sessions rather than assuming each tool call maps to one session; rerun the test at the actual concurrency.
- Measurements vary from run to run: use representative pages and repeat the workload instead of projecting capacity from one simple site or one capture.
- State disappears after a browser closes: this is expected with isolated mode, which keeps the profile in memory and loses session storage on close. Choose a different profile approach if persistence is required.
- A full-page capture differs from an element capture: these are distinct supported modes, and full-page mode cannot be combined with a target element. Test the mode your workload actually needs.
- No published RAM figure answers your sizing question: the official documentation reviewed provides no per-session constant. Use measured peak resident memory from the target browser, settings, page mix, and concurrency.
