There is no single reliable India-wide monthly price for a 24/7 4K 60fps YouTube Live stream. The total depends on the encoder and its measured power draw, your electricity tariff, the upload plan available at your address, and whether encoding runs locally or in the cloud. One cost is easier to estimate: at YouTube’s recommended 2160p60 video bitrates, a continuous 30-day stream carries about 11.34 TB at 35 Mbps (AV1 or H.265) or 16.2 TB at 50 Mbps (H.264), before overhead and other adjustments.
What makes up the monthly cost?
Budget for the parts your setup actually uses. A locally encoded stream has an internet connection and continuous electricity costs, plus any encoder hardware, backup power or redundancy you need. A cloud setup has encoding or channel charges and possibly a VM or other infrastructure; its network charges depend on the specific route and service. In either case, do not count viewers’ delivery as if you were uploading a separate full-bitrate stream to every viewer: YouTube says it transcodes the live input into formats for viewers.
- Local: incremental broadband cost, electricity for the encoder and networking equipment, and hardware purchase or depreciation if applicable.
- Cloud: managed encoding or channel costs, any required compute, billable transfer not covered by a specific-product exemption, source-feed costs and monitoring.
There is no published official total for this exact 24/7 setup in India. A defensible estimate requires your actual bitrate and architecture, measured equipment draw, applicable electricity tariff and ISP terms.

How much data does a 24/7 4K60 stream use?
YouTube’s current guidance recommends 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265/HEVC at 2160p60, and 50 Mbps for H.264. Its minimums are 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 14 Mbps for H.264. These are video bitrate recommendations; 4K alone does not determine the required bitrate. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

The monthly totals are arithmetic from the recommended rates: 30 days × 24 hours = 2,592,000 seconds, multiplied by the bitrate and divided by eight bits per byte. They are not YouTube-published usage statistics. Actual transferred bytes can be higher because of transport overhead, reconnects, or audio bitrate not included in the video figure. At the same bitrate, a 31-day month uses about 3.3% more than the 30-day estimate.
What upload speed and YouTube settings do you need?
Your connection must sustain the chosen video bitrate, plus audio and network overhead, with enough headroom to absorb normal variation. A plan’s advertised speed is not a guarantee of continuous upload throughput. Check the upload speed and fair-use terms at the actual address, and test with representative movement in the video rather than a static scene.
- Use RTMP or RTMPS for ingest; YouTube recommends RTMPS.
- Set bitrate encoding to CBR (constant bitrate), following YouTube’s encoder guidance for the chosen resolution and codec.
- Monitor YouTube stream health during a representative test before relying on a continuous broadcast.
- Check the broadband plan’s upload rate, data or fair-use threshold, speed after any threshold, service terms and local availability. “Unlimited” by itself does not establish that a plan can sustain this workload.
TRAI provides telecom tariff resources and a broadband plan report dated 24 October 2025, but neither establishes one current plan available everywhere in India that guarantees the needed continuous upload. If your existing connection is adequate, count only the incremental broadband cost attributable to upgrading it, not automatically the full household bill.

How do you calculate the electricity cost?
Measure average wall draw while encoding the actual stream. A computer’s component nameplate or maximum power rating is not a substitute for its average consumption under load. Include the router, modem, cooling and UPS losses if they run continuously.
- Measure the average load in watts with a wall meter while the streaming setup is operating as it will in practice.
- Calculate monthly consumption for a 30-day month:
average watts × 720 ÷ 1,000 = monthly kWh. - Multiply those kWh by your applicable marginal rupees-per-kWh rate, then account for relevant fixed charges or duties:
monthly kWh × applicable ₹/kWh.
For scale, a continuous 100 W average load uses 72 kWh in 30 days. That is a consumption calculation, not an India-wide electricity price. Rates vary by state, utility, customer category, tariff period and subsidy. The Central Electricity Authority’s 2025 tariff book contains state and supply-category tariff and duty tables. The Ministry of Power says state electricity regulatory commissions determine retail tariffs and state governments may subsidize consumer classes; see its 10 August 2026 release. Check the current schedule for your own utility and category before converting kWh to rupees.
Is local or cloud encoding cheaper?
Neither is universally cheaper. Local encoding trades a hardware purchase and measured ongoing power use for responsibility for the computer, connection and recovery. Cloud encoding trades local equipment operation for recurring, configuration-dependent charges and the need to manage the source feed and cloud architecture.

Local encoding
Calculate electricity from measured watts and your tariff, then add only the broadband upgrade and hardware costs that apply to you. Reliability may require backup power or a second connection, which can change the comparison.
Managed cloud encoding
Google Cloud Live Stream API is one managed encoding option, not a stand-in price for every cloud arrangement. Google says charges depend on active channel time, input and output resolution, and codec; there is a ten-minute minimum and active duration rounds up to the nearest minute. A 30-day continuously active channel has a 720-hour time basis, but a rupee estimate also needs the region, configuration, codec tier, currency and taxes. See Live Stream API pricing and general-purpose VM pricing; Google recommends using its pricing calculator for VM estimates.
Network charges also depend on architecture. Google lists traffic from a VM to specific Google products, including YouTube, as no charge, but its network pricing page separately lists India-to-India VM-to-Google-Cloud-service transfer rates for relevant traffic categories. Do not assume the YouTube route treatment applies to every transfer or destination.
