At a constant 15 watts, a fanless Intel N100 box uses 0.36 kWh per day and 131.4 kWh in a 365-day year. Multiply 131.4 by your all-in electricity rate per kWh to estimate the annual electricity cost. At an illustrative rate of $0.20/kWh, that works out to $26.28 per year; your actual bill depends on your location and tariff.
Calculate the electricity use and cost
The calculation assumes the complete mini PC draws 15 W continuously for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year:
- Daily: 15 W × 24 hours = 360 Wh, or 0.36 kWh.
- Annual: 0.36 kWh × 365 days = 131.4 kWh.
- Annual cost: 131.4 kWh × your electricity price per kWh.
For example, at $0.20/kWh, 131.4 × $0.20 = $26.28 for a year. That rate is illustrative, not a universal electricity price. Use the all-in per-kWh rate on your bill for a location-specific estimate.
Is 15 W a reasonable estimate for an N100 mini PC?
It is a plausible estimate, but not a guaranteed draw for every N100 computer. CNX Software measured 14.7–17.9 W at the wall during YouTube playback on one fanless MINIX Z100-0dB. In its Windows 11 review, the system played 8K60 video in Chrome and was connected to Wi-Fi 6, a wireless keyboard-and-mouse dongle, and a VGA screen through an HDMI-to-VGA adapter (CNX Software’s Windows review). Its Ubuntu 22.04 review reported the same 14.7–17.9 W range playing YouTube 8Kp60 in Firefox (CNX Software’s Ubuntu review).

Those readings are useful reference points for that model and those configurations—not a controlled comparison of N100 machines. Actual wall power can vary with the mini PC, operating system, browser, video resolution and codec, display, Wi-Fi, and connected peripherals.
Do not use the processor’s TDP as the system’s electricity draw
Intel specifies the N100 processor at 6 W TDP. That is a processor-level specification, not a wall-meter reading for a complete mini PC running a YouTube stream. The N100 specification also lists Intel UHD Graphics, 24 execution units, Quick Sync Video, and 4K support (Intel N100 specifications).

For additional context, Intel’s N-series media presentation describes 10-bit HEVC and VP9 encode/decode and AV1 decode capability (Intel N-series media presentation). Those capabilities do not establish power use or guarantee playback behavior for every browser and YouTube stream.
Playback draw differs from idle draw
CNX Software reported 7.5–7.6 W at idle for the tested MINIX Z100-0dB in its Ubuntu review. That is lower than the review’s YouTube-playback reading, which is why a continuous-playback estimate should use power measured during playback rather than idle power.

How to make the estimate fit your setup
- Measure at the wall during the actual workload. If you already have the box, use a wall power meter while it plays the kind of YouTube video you intend to stream. Measure the complete setup, including any display and peripherals that will remain connected.
- Keep the test conditions representative. Use the operating system, browser, resolution, and playback settings you expect to use. Let playback settle before noting the draw; a reading under a different workload may not reflect your continuous stream.
- Convert watts to annual kWh. Multiply the measured watts by 24 and 365, then divide by 1,000. For example, at 15 W: 15 × 24 × 365 ÷ 1,000 = 131.4 kWh per year.
- Apply your own tariff. Multiply annual kWh by the all-in electricity rate on your bill. Use the same rate and measurement method when comparing two systems.
The cited CNX Software reviews provide a device-specific example, not a controlled comparison across N100 models. A fair comparison should hold playback workload, operating system and browser, resolution and codec, connected equipment, and electricity tariff constant.
What this estimate covers—and what it does not
The $26.28 example is electricity arithmetic for a constant 15 W draw at an illustrative $0.20/kWh. It is not the total cost of operating a YouTube channel or a mini PC. It does not include the computer’s purchase price, internet service, or any other costs. If the box draws a different amount, recalculate with its measured watts; if your tariff differs, substitute your own rate.
