Lynote presents its AI Detector and AI Humanizer as two steps in a text-review workflow: identify passages its detector considers AI-like, revise them for clarity, then review the revised text. Neither a detector score nor a humanizer’s rewrite establishes who wrote a passage or guarantees how another detector will classify it. Those limits matter because independent studies have found that detection can be unreliable, particularly after text has been rewritten.

How does an AI detector work?

An AI detector looks for patterns associated with AI-generated or AI-altered writing and estimates how likely a passage is to match them. Lynote says its commercial detector analyzes features such as word choice, sentence rhythm, predictability, and structure, then returns AI-generated, human-written, or mixed classifications with sentence highlights for review. These are Lynote’s descriptions of its product, not independently verified measures of authorship or accuracy. Lynote AI Detector

Lynote’s separate public Hugging Face demo describes a lightweight heuristic method that looks at uniform sentence rhythm, formulaic phrases, repeated n-grams or sentence starters, and vocabulary uniformity. Its README cautions that scores are probabilistic and that short, translated, or heavily edited text may be misjudged. That demo is not evidence that the commercial detector uses exactly the same method. Lynote’s public demo

A detector score is a pattern-based signal, not a percentage of words proven to have come from AI, unless the particular product explicitly defines the score that way. Lynote’s demo puts the distinction plainly: “A score is a probabilistic signal, not proof of authorship.”

Can an AI detector tell if something was written by ChatGPT?

It cannot establish that reliably from a score alone. A detector may flag writing with patterns associated with AI, but human writing can share those patterns, and editing or paraphrasing can change how a passage is classified. Turnitin warns that its own model may misidentify human-written, AI-generated, and AI-paraphrased text, and says its report should not be the sole basis for adverse action against a student. It recommends further scrutiny and human judgment alongside institutional policy. Turnitin’s Using the AI Writing Report guide

Research also shows why a confident-looking result deserves caution. A 2025 paper by Elyas Masrour and Bradley Emi examined 19 humanizer and paraphrasing tools and reported that many existing detectors failed to detect humanized text; the paper also presented a model intended to improve robustness. This is a study-specific finding, not a measurement of Lynote. 2025 study

A 2023 study record covering 12 public tools and two commercial systems concluded that the tools it evaluated were not accurate or reliable overall, and that obfuscation worsened performance. Its findings concern the systems and conditions studied, not every detector now available. 2023 study

Accordingly, a flag is a reason to examine the work and its context—not proof of misconduct or proof that ChatGPT wrote it. Draft history, notes, sources, assignment requirements, and a conversation with the writer can provide context that a score cannot.

Does Lynote’s AI Detector work with its Humanizer?

Lynote connects the two tools as a review loop: use the detector to identify highlighted passages, use the Humanizer to rewrite AI-heavy text in a clearer, more natural voice, and review the final output. Lynote advises users to review that output rather than treating the rewrite as finished automatically. Lynote AI Humanizer

  1. Review the flagged passages. Treat highlights as prompts to inspect the writing, not as a verdict about its origin.
  2. Revise for the reader. Clarify the point, add specific support or examples, and make sure the wording reflects what you mean. If using the Humanizer, check whether its rewrite preserves meaning, facts, and voice.
  3. Review the final text. Read it for accuracy and readability. A new detector result, if you choose to obtain one, remains another probabilistic signal rather than confirmation of authorship.

Lynote claims its detector supports 50+ languages and says submitted content is not used to train its detection models. These are first-party product statements, not independent accuracy testing or a privacy audit. Lynote’s detector page

Lynote’s early-2026 open-source humanizer repository describes a reference pipeline and claims relative improvements by the current Lynote product compared with that repository. Those are vendor-authored comparisons, not independently validated results in the cited materials; the repository also says detector scores are probabilistic and does not guarantee that rewritten text will be classified as human. Can a humanizer make AI writing undetectable?

No humanizer can be treated as a reliable guarantee that text will evade every detector. The 2025 study’s finding that many tested humanizers and paraphrasing tools evaded existing detectors shows that rewriting can weaken detection, but it does not establish a universal evasion rate or predict how any specific detector will respond. The 2023 study likewise found poor reliability in the tools it evaluated. Neither result is a score for Lynote’s Humanizer.

Rewriting can also alter meaning, evidence, or tone. Use a humanizer, if at all, as an editing aid: compare its output with the original, restore any lost nuance or factual precision, and follow the rules that apply to your assignment or workplace. Do not use a detector score as a substitute for those rules.

What should I do if my writing gets flagged as AI?

  1. Ask what the result measures. Check the tool’s documentation for what its score means, what kind of text it covers, and whether it provides passage-level explanations. Do not assume that the score is a share of words written by AI.
  2. Keep evidence of your process. Preserve drafts, version history, outlines, research notes, and source materials where appropriate. These can help explain how the work was developed; the detector itself cannot provide that history.
  3. Check the flagged text on its merits. Look for generic phrasing, unsupported claims, missing citations, or passages that do not sound like your usual work. Revise what genuinely needs improvement rather than rewriting merely to chase a score.
  4. Follow the relevant policy and raise a concern calmly. If a school or employer relies on a detector, ask how the result is interpreted and what review or appeal process applies. Turnitin’s guidance specifically says its report should not be the sole basis for adverse action against a student.

What is the difference between an AI detector and a plagiarism checker?

An AI detector estimates whether writing resembles patterns associated with AI-generated or AI-altered text. A plagiarism checker looks for matching or similar material in sources available to its comparison system. The questions are different: original writing can be AI-generated without matching a source, while copied text can match a source regardless of whether a person or AI produced it. Neither kind of result, by itself, establishes intent or authorship.

Why do detector requirements differ?

Input rules and language coverage are product-specific, so one tool’s limits should not be assumed for another. For example, Turnitin’s guide describes detection for qualifying long-form prose, requires at least 300 words, and lists a maximum of 30,000 words. It lists English, Spanish, Japanese, and Arabic support, and says only its English detector includes detection of AI paraphrasing and bypasser tools. These are Turnitin-specific conditions, not general requirements for Lynote or other detectors. Turnitin’s AI writing detection capabilities
