YouTube livestreamers can earn through ads, channel memberships, Super Chat and Super Stickers, Shopping, and YouTube Premium; eligible creators can also receive Super Thanks on videos after a stream. Which features you can use depends on YouTube Partner Program (YPP) access, your location, the content, and feature-specific rules. YouTube’s published revenue shares describe particular revenue bases—they do not predict a creator’s actual income.
How do livestreamers make money on YouTube?
The main routes differ in who pays and where the feature appears. Some are specific to live chat; others apply to videos more broadly or depend on a viewer’s Premium subscription.

Eligible YPP creators may earn a share of advertising revenue, but ads are conditional: YouTube may not serve an ad to every viewer or on every stream, and ad revenue is not guaranteed. The Watch Page Monetization Module states a 55% share of net revenue from ads displayed or streamed on public videos on the content Watch Page. That figure is not a fixed payment per stream, view, or viewer.

Memberships and live-chat purchases
Memberships let viewers make recurring monthly payments in exchange for perks the creator defines. Super Chat makes a viewer’s chat message stand out, while Super Stickers display an animated sticker. Both are live-chat fan-funding features, not general-purpose donations or crowdfunding. Their availability and the creator’s legal responsibilities depend on YouTube’s rules and applicable law.
Shopping, Premium, and after-stream income
YouTube Shopping can connect a creator’s own store or, where eligible, allow promotion of third-party products. Availability and affiliate participation vary; neither is available to every creator or in every region. Premium revenue is a share of subscription fees when Premium members watch creator content. Super Thanks is different from a live-chat purchase: it gives a viewer a one-time way to support an eligible Short or long-form video, such as a recording published after a stream.

How many subscribers do you need to monetize?
YouTube lists two commonly relevant YPP thresholds. The lower threshold can unlock earlier access to certain fan-funding and Shopping features; it is not the same as the threshold for Watch Page and Shorts Feed ad revenue. Meeting a threshold does not guarantee acceptance or access to every feature: YouTube reviews channels, and additional policies and feature-level requirements apply.

These thresholds are from YouTube’s YPP overview and eligibility page and its feature eligibility information, reviewed on October 3, 2026. YouTube states that views and watch time from paid advertising campaigns do not count toward the thresholds. Check the Earn area in YouTube Studio and the current Help pages for your channel’s status; thresholds, regional availability, and feature rules can change.

Can you make money from Super Chats?
Yes, if your channel and the specific stream or Premiere qualify and viewers choose to buy them. Super Chat and Super Stickers depend on country availability, YouTube’s terms, and content eligibility. For example, YouTube excludes certain content types, including private, unlisted, age-restricted, made-for-kids, and fundraiser videos. Live chat or comments must be enabled for the relevant feature. See YouTube’s current Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility, availability, and policies before relying on them.
Do not treat a Super Chat as a guaranteed donation or assume every viewer can purchase one. YouTube notes that creators have legal responsibilities and that treatment may depend on applicable law.

How much does YouTube pay livestreamers?
YouTube publishes revenue-share percentages for specific monetization modules, but the percentages use different bases. They are not comparable as if each were a percentage of the same gross amount, nor do they establish what an individual stream will earn.

These are the terms stated in YouTube’s partner earnings overview, reviewed in 2026. YouTube says there are no guarantees under the partner agreement about how much or whether a creator will be paid. Actual earnings depend on factors including viewer purchases, ads served, audience and content eligibility, Premium viewing, and the terms that apply to the creator.

What can prevent a livestream from earning?
- YPP or feature eligibility: A channel must be accepted into YPP for relevant features and meet any additional age, location, account-standing, and feature requirements. Review the YPP eligibility rules and the Earn tab in YouTube Studio.
- Content and advertiser suitability: Monetized content must follow YouTube’s monetization policies and, for ads, advertiser-friendly guidelines. These rules apply to livestreams as well as other video formats. Read the YouTube channel monetization policies.
- Live-chat settings or excluded video types: Supers may be unavailable when chat or comments are off, or the stream falls into an excluded category. Consult the Supers policy and availability page.
- Copyright and reused material: A stream that violates copyright or monetization policies can lose monetization or face other channel consequences. Ensure you have the rights needed for music, clips, and other material, and make content that complies with YouTube’s policies.
- Tax obligations: Tax treatment depends on where you live and your circumstances. Use your local tax authority or a qualified tax professional for advice specific to you.
How to build a more dependable livestream income mix
- Check eligibility first. In YouTube Studio, open the Earn area to see the features available to your channel, any requirements still unmet, and applicable setup steps.
- Choose features that match the stream. Use Supers when live chat is an active part of the broadcast; consider memberships when you can consistently deliver the perks you promise; use Shopping only when the feature and products fit your audience and eligibility.
- Plan for more than one source. Ads depend on ad serving, Supers and memberships on viewers choosing to pay, Shopping on product activity, and Premium on eligible viewing. Do not budget as if any one route guarantees a set amount.
- Make streams suitable for monetization. Follow copyright and advertiser-friendly rules, set chat appropriately, and check video visibility and content restrictions before scheduling or going live.
- Review current terms and your results. Feature rules, regional availability, and module terms can change. Use YouTube Studio and the current YouTube Help pages rather than assuming a feature or share rate applies to every channel.
