Jev is designed to return typed decisions—such as a selected category, a score, or the probability that a statement is true—instead of generating a JSON string token by token. The application supplies the state to evaluate and defines the questions and answer spaces in advance. TypeSafe AI says Jev evaluates those decisions in parallel; its public material describes the approach at a high level, not enough to independently reconstruct the model’s internal architecture.
What Jev returns
Jev is a decision model for software applications, according to TypeSafe AI. A caller provides a state—such as a support ticket, chat log, or record—and asks one or more typed questions about it. The result is a set of decisions in the requested types, with probabilities or confidence information as described by the vendor. The application consumes those results rather than extracting an answer from generated prose.
The Jev guide documents three question types:
- Choice: select among options supplied by the caller.
- Score: place the state on a supplied scale.
- Noul: estimate the probability that a yes-or-no statement is true.
A request can combine question types for the same state. The answer space is therefore part of the request: Jev is asked to make a defined decision, not to invent the format and contents of an open-ended response. The guide also warns that an answer can have the correct type and still be wrong. Jev Guide: What is Jev?
How it differs from generating JSON token by token
A conventional autoregressive language model produces an output sequence step by step, with each next token conditioned on the preceding context and generated tokens. If the requested output is JSON, that sequence includes the keys, values, braces, commas, and other text that make up the object.

TypeSafe describes Jev differently: the caller defines typed questions and possible answers, and Jev evaluates the state to return decisions and probabilities in parallel. In this workflow, the model is not composing a JSON object as a sequence of output tokens for the application to parse. The important distinction is the output contract—typed decisions for bounded questions rather than generated text—not a claim that all other language models or structured-output systems work the same way.
TypeSafe’s September 15, 2026 launch announcement calls the approach a “new model architecture” using a “parallel sampler” and names its training method Reinforcement Learning for Calibrated Decisions (RLCD). Those are the company’s descriptions; the announcement does not provide enough implementation detail to reconstruct the architecture or independently establish the training method’s results. Founder Diogo Almeida summarized the intended role as “a frontier-intelligence function call: unstructured state in, typed probabilistic decisions out.” TypeSafe AI’s launch announcement

Jev versus schema-constrained LLM output
Both approaches can return structured data, but they serve different output contracts. Schema-constrained generation directs a model to produce a text object that fits a schema; Jev asks the model to make typed decisions from questions and answer spaces supplied by the caller. TypeSafe’s comparison acknowledges that constrained decoding can produce schema-valid objects, so schema validity alone is not a fair reason to dismiss that approach.
| Question | Schema-constrained LLM output | Jev, as described by TypeSafe |
|---|---|---|
| What is returned? | A generated text object constrained by a schema or decoding rule. | Typed decisions, with probabilities or confidence information described by the vendor. |
| How is the answer space supplied? | Through a schema or other generation constraint. | Through typed questions and, for bounded choices or scores, caller-defined options or scales. |
| How is uncertainty represented? | It may be expressed in a generated field if the application requests one. | Probabilities are part of the decision-oriented output described by TypeSafe. |
| What is it suited to? | Structured responses that may include flexible generated content. | Bounded decisions such as classification, routing, scoring, or branching. |
This is a distinction in task design, not proof that Jev is more accurate. A valid schema does not guarantee that the content is correct, and a well-typed Jev decision can also be wrong. Whether the returned result is useful depends on the task, the defined answer space, and how the application handles errors and uncertainty.

When Jev fits—and when it does not
Good fit: decisions with a defined answer space
Jev’s documented question types map naturally to bounded tasks: classify a ticket into known categories, score a record on a chosen scale, or estimate whether a condition is true. These outputs can drive application logic, such as routing a case to a queue or deciding whether to request human review. Because the application defines the expected answers, it can build handling for each result into its workflow.
Poor fit: open-ended generation
The guide positions Jev for decisions rather than general-purpose text generation. It is not the natural choice when the application needs a draft, summary, explanation, or code: those tasks require generated content rather than a decision among caller-defined types or options. A system may use a decision model as one step in a larger workflow, but that does not make Jev a replacement for a text generator.

Accuracy, latency, and price claims
TypeSafe’s September 15, 2026 announcement reports a response-time range of 70–500 ms and an input price of $0.042 per million input tokens, with output tokens described as free. These are vendor-published figures, not independent guarantees for every request, deployment, or current service terms. Check the provider’s current documentation before relying on the latency or price for a production budget.
The same announcement says Jev was 193.6× faster and 444.6× cheaper in selected System One workflow comparisons. TypeSafe describes these as figures at the higher end of real-world gains and discusses possible evaluation bias and choices made in the comparison. No independent benchmark establishing those headline figures was identified in the cited sources, so they should not be treated as a general comparison with LLMs or structured-output APIs.

For any decision model, a returned probability is not a guarantee of correctness. Set decision thresholds to match the cost of false positives and false negatives, monitor results on representative cases, and provide an escalation path when uncertainty or impact warrants human review.
What the documented API request looks like
The Jev Model Guide’s API reference documents a hosted endpoint that accepts a state and questions, with Bearer-key authentication. The reference specifies up to eight questions per request, an 8,000-character serialized-state limit, and input-token billing for that API. These limits and billing details apply to the cited reference, not necessarily to every Jev-branded service or future API version. Jev Model Guide API documentation
An open-source Haskell client illustrates implementation concerns such as validating requests before sending them, decoding responses, and handling validation, transport, HTTP, and decoding errors separately. It is a client example, not an authoritative description of Jev’s proprietary internals; check provider documentation for endpoint behavior and current limits. Haskell Jev client README
