Valipireddy Kowshik says he did not leave web development behind when he shifted toward business AI agents. Instead, a voice-first technical interviewer helped him recognize how his full-stack skills—especially state management, integrations, and failure handling—were already being applied to a new kind of system.

What changed—and what did not

In a first-person article published on DEV Community on September 16, 2026, Kowshik describes having more than three years of full-stack and React Native experience before directing most of his work toward business AI agents. He says his earlier work included patient health flows at Tap Health, doctor portals and HR and admin platforms at ZarvisGenix, and speech-to-text pipelines that fed automated workflows. These are details from his own account, not independently verified employment or project records.

His change was a shift in focus, not an abandonment of software engineering. Kowshik presents web development as the foundation for his agent work: business systems still need interfaces, reliable data handling, and connections to the services people already use.

The interviewer project that changed how he saw his work

Kowshik identifies a voice-first AI technical interviewer as the turning point. In his description, it talks with a candidate, observes live keystrokes through a WebSocket connection, offers hints when the candidate is stuck, and produces a structured hiring scorecard. While implementing editor updates over WebSockets and a finite-state machine to decide when the system should intervene, he realized he was building an AI agent. As he put it, “I wasn’t building a chatbot.”

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

He also reports that the project needed to synthesize speech “in under 300ms,” maintain deterministic state, evaluate code in a live sandbox, and produce a structured hiring decision. That timing is Kowshik’s claim about his project; the account does not give a measurement method, test conditions, or independent confirmation, so it should not be read as a verified benchmark.

Why he sees full-stack skills as relevant to agents

Kowshik’s argument is that putting a model behind an interface is only one part of making an AI feature work in a business process. In his experience, an operational system also has to authenticate users, apply rate limits, work with data schemas, handle malformed outputs, manage errors, preserve state, and connect to tools such as calendars, CRMs, and databases.

Those concerns are familiar to application developers. A model may produce a useful answer, but a workflow still needs to know what context it can use, what action it is allowed to take, what happens if a tool fails, and when a person should take over. Kowshik’s point is not that model capability is irrelevant; it is that the surrounding engineering determines whether a model can participate reliably in a real workflow.

His practical distinction between an agent and a chatbot

Kowshik criticizes systems that simply wrap a prompt around a model and call the result an agent, particularly when they cannot handle requests outside a prepared script or act on connected systems. His distinction is a practical heuristic from his own account, not a formal or universally agreed definition:

  • Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
  • Context: Does the system observe relevant information beyond the latest message?
  • State: Can it track where it is in a task and behave predictably as the task progresses?
  • Actions: Can it use connected tools to do something in a workflow, rather than only generate a reply?
  • Failure handling: Does it manage errors and malformed outputs rather than treating every model response as usable?
  • Handoff: Can it pass control to a person when the situation calls for one?

These questions make the distinction concrete without requiring a claim that every product labeled an agent works the same way. A tool-using system can still be poorly engineered; the relevant test is how it behaves across the actual workflow, including failures and handoffs.

The kinds of agent work he says he does now

Kowshik describes four categories of client work. The examples below are his description of his work, not independently verified client outcomes.

What a developer can take from his career shift

For a web or full-stack developer wondering whether agent work is a genuine change or simply a rebranding of chatbots, Kowshik’s answer is rooted in implementation: the work becomes meaningfully different when a system uses context and state to make decisions, take actions through connected tools, and handle errors or escalate appropriately. Those requirements draw on the same engineering discipline used to build dependable applications.

His story is therefore less “leave full-stack development to build AI” than “apply full-stack engineering to systems that include AI.” The interviewer project gave him a name for work he says he had already been moving toward; the larger lesson he offers is to judge an agent by the workflow it can reliably support, not by the label attached to it.
