Multiselect V18 is a free grouped dropdown snippet that limits how many choices a user can select in each group. Its example uses states, but the options can be adapted. The source does not specify the numeric cap, so check the actual demo or download before relying on a particular limit.
What Multiselect V18 does
V18 organizes options into categories and applies a separate selection cap to each category, rather than one limit across the entire dropdown. This pattern is useful when a long list naturally falls into groups and users should be able to choose a bounded number from each.
The default example is organized around states. Colorlib says the options can be adapted to other choices. Its collection page describes the snippets as plain HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript, with no jQuery, Bootstrap files, or plugin dependency; it also says they can run independently or in Bootstrap 4, 5, and 6 projects. That is collection-level guidance, not a V18-specific code inspection. Colorlib’s multiselect examples are the source for these descriptions.

- Per-group maximum: The page describes a separate cap for each group, but does not give the numeric value or establish whether it is configurable. Confirm the behavior in the V18 demo or downloaded code.
- How the limit is communicated: Put the maximum in the field label or group instructions so users know the rule before selecting. If a selection is blocked at the cap without explanation, the control can appear broken.
- Implementation details: The source does not establish V18’s JavaScript API, browser support, or accessibility conformance. Verify these in the actual implementation before integrating it.
Is a grouped multiselect the right pattern?
Groups help users scan long option sets when the categories are meaningful. For a short or naturally flat list, grouping can add unnecessary interaction. Also decide whether the limit should be global or apply separately within each group: V18 is described as the latter.

Consider how users will find and review options as well. Other snippets in the collection are described as having live search, jump-to-letter typing, visible selection tags, or a selection count; those are alternatives elsewhere in the collection, not stated V18 features. If users must manage many selections, confirm that V18 provides a clear way to review and remove them.
Test keyboard and assistive-technology behavior
Do not assume that a custom dropdown is accessible because it looks like a familiar select control. Colorlib recommends checking whether users can open the list, navigate options with arrow keys, toggle an option with Space, and close the list with Escape, then testing with a screen reader. These are recommended checks, not verified V18 capabilities. Also check touch targets and scrolling on a phone.
