To unbind a DJI drone in DJI Fly, sign in with the account currently linked to the aircraft, connect the app to the aircraft and remote controller, then go to Profile > Device Management > Remove Device from Account and confirm. If the drone is still linked to a previous owner, that account holder must remove the binding; they can do it remotely.
Unbind a drone in DJI Fly
DJI’s DJI Fly binding and unbinding guide describes this process for supported camera-drone families, including Mavic, Flip, Air, Neo, Mini, Avata, and DJI Lito models. Check the current guide for your exact model because supported devices and app wording can change.
- Sign in to DJI Fly with the DJI account currently bound to the aircraft.
- Connect DJI Fly to the aircraft and remote controller.
- Open Profile > Device Management.
- Select Remove Device from Account, review the binding information, tap Next, and confirm.
If the option is missing or the process does not complete, check DJI’s guide for your model or contact DJI Support.
If the drone is bound to someone else’s account
For a second-hand drone, the previous account holder must remove the binding. DJI says the former owner can do this remotely, without connecting the physical aircraft. DJI Support states: “Please kindly note that only the account owner has the right to unbind the drone with the associated account.” See DJI’s second-hand rebinding guidance.

When the previous owner can help
Ask the seller or previous owner to sign in to the account linked to the drone and unbind it. After the release, bind the aircraft to your own account, then bind the remote controller.
When you cannot reach the previous owner
DJI provides an application route that asks it to notify the original account holder. This only starts a request: the holder still has to complete the unbinding. DJI says it cannot make the holder release the drone if they refuse or do not respond. If you bought it through a marketplace or dealer, contact the seller or the marketplace/dealer and ask them to reach the prior owner.

What changes after unbinding
Unbinding changes which account is associated with the aircraft; it does not transfer or merge account data. DJI’s account information guidance says account data cannot currently be transferred or combined. To use the aircraft with another account, unbind it first and then bind it to the new account.

If you are keeping and flying the drone, review the applicable current DJI Care Refresh terms before unbinding. DJI’s Care Refresh FAQ says flyaway replacement depends on the aircraft being bound to the DJI account and the remote controller being bound to the aircraft. The bound account holder makes the flyaway report, and the service cannot be used if the aircraft or controller was unbound before the flyaway occurred.
