To raise mastery in Graveyard Keeper 2, use Inspirations to earn points and spend them on a mastery perk for the skill you need, or upgrade the equipment used for that activity. Inspirations require completing listed tasks, and some level claims also cost Faith; equipment upgrades depend on the item and its unlock requirements. Neither route is a guaranteed fastest option for every skill or stage of the game.

How mastery works

Mastery is tied to the skill or activity you want to improve, rather than being one generic character level. That matters because a perk or upgraded tool needs to apply to the task you are trying to do. The available choices and their effects can depend on your progress, so check the relevant skill, perk, and equipment descriptions in your current game.

Route 1: Complete Inspirations and spend points on mastery perks

Inspirations are a two-step route: completing and claiming a task earns Inspiration Points, but you must then spend those points on an appropriate perk. Some claims require Faith. Prima Games describes the Inspirations menu as organizing tasks into five categories; the task itself lists the actions and progress needed. Prima Games’ Graveyard Keeper 2 guide outlines this process.

  1. Open Inspirations. Review the available tasks and choose one whose associated skill or activity matches the mastery you want.
  2. Complete the listed actions. Watch the task’s progress bar and fulfill its displayed requirements.
  3. Claim the completed level. Check whether the claim requires Faith; Faith is accumulated by performing sermons in the Church.
  4. Open Perks and spend the point. Choose a perk that directly grants mastery to the relevant skill. Check its cost and prerequisites in game before committing the point.

Claiming an Inspiration level does not automatically raise mastery: the point has to be spent on a suitable mastery perk, and not every perk applies to every skill.

Route 2: Upgrade equipment for the activity

The other route is to improve the equipment used for the task. The Prima Games guide gives the Keeper’s tools, progressing from rusty tools through bronze, iron, and steel, as examples, and also mentions upgrading the Basic Rod. Choose equipment that corresponds to the activity whose mastery you want to raise.

Before investing materials, check the item’s current description and the game’s unlock requirements. The available guide does not establish a complete, verified list of equipment bonuses, so a tool’s tier alone is not enough to infer its exact effect or how much mastery it adds.

Which route should you choose?

Route What you do Useful when Check first
Inspirations and perks Complete a listed task, claim its level, then spend the Inspiration Point on a relevant mastery perk. You want to select a perk for a particular skill. Task requirements, any Faith cost, available points, perk prerequisites, and whether the perk applies to your target skill.
Equipment Upgrade the tools or equipment used for the target activity. An applicable equipment upgrade is available to you. The item’s relevance to the task, materials and unlock requirements, and its displayed effect.

Your best option depends on which skill is holding you back, what you have unlocked, and whether you have the Faith or materials required. These are two broadly applicable routes, not a tested ranking of the fastest builds.

Why current perk text matters

Patch history can affect individual perks. A Steam community news update for Graveyard Keeper 2 reports a fix to Tempering Expert so that it correctly grants its Mastery bonus and unlocks Master Armor and sword crafting. If an older guide conflicts with the perk’s behavior in your game, check the current patch information and the perk’s in-game description.
