You can switch an existing website to a temporary address from its dashboard’s Websites page, provided you have an active hosting plan and dashboard access. Before confirming, note that the change deletes email accounts created with the current domain, removes its subdomains, and makes existing backups for that domain inaccessible. The website’s files and database remain online.
Before changing the domain
Check that you have an active hosting plan and can sign in to the dashboard. Review the confirmation warning carefully: Hostinger says email accounts created with the current domain will be deleted, subdomains will be removed, and existing backups for that domain will no longer be accessible. Hostinger’s broader guidance says email inboxes must be recreated and their email data is lost; subdomains also need to be recreated, though their files remain intact. The website’s files and database stay online. Hostinger’s temporary-domain instructions and its domain-change guidance describe these effects.

Hostinger assigns a random temporary address that cannot be customized or edited. Its example, brand-name-1234.hostinger-site.com, illustrates the format; it is not a selectable address, and this process does not reuse a previous temporary address. See the documented workflow.
If the site is already on a temporary domain
The dashboard may show Current domain is temporary and a Connect domain link instead of Change domain. To attach a preferred domain, use Connect beneath the temporary domain, select an available domain or enter one manually, and follow the prompts. Depending on the domain, pointing its DNS records and waiting for propagation may be a separate step. See Hostinger’s guidance on the Websites section and connecting a preferred domain.
