You can buy XRP on Bitstamp only if it is available for your location and account. First complete the verification Bitstamp requests, check the XRP market and funding options in your account, then compare the live order preview before confirming. Available markets, payment methods and fees can vary by region and change over time.
What you need before buying XRP
- A Bitstamp account with the current verification steps completed. Bitstamp’s 2021 exchange overview described identity documents and proof of residence as verification requirements; follow the exact request shown for your account because requirements may vary.
- Access to XRP trading for your country, state and Bitstamp account entity. Do not assume that a market available in one jurisdiction is available to you.
- A payment method listed in your account, and enough available funds to cover the order and any displayed charges.
Check whether XRP is available in your location
Availability depends on jurisdiction and can change. In a July 13, 2023 announcement, Bitstamp said U.S. customers could trade XRP/USD, XRP/BTC and XRP/USDT, while excluding Hawaii and Nevada; it also said XRP/USDT was unavailable in New York. Those dated examples are not a current availability map. Check Bitstamp’s live market list and your account before funding or placing an order. Bitstamp’s U.S. XRP announcement
For eligible retail users in the EEA and Switzerland whose accounts are held with Bitstamp Europe S.A., a September 28, 2026 announcement said invitations to access and manage existing accounts through the Robinhood app would begin in phases from October 15, 2026. It said Bitstamp Europe S.A. would remain the service provider and account counterparty. The change applies to eligible accounts, not necessarily every customer in those regions. How to buy XRP on Bitstamp
- Register and verify your account. Create a Bitstamp account and complete the verification steps it presents. The documents requested depend on the current requirements for your account and region.
- Confirm an XRP market is available. Look in the account’s markets or buy flow for an XRP pair you can use, such as a pair against a fiat currency or another supported asset. Check the pair and local eligibility before depositing funds.
- Add funds using an available method. Select only a payment option displayed for your account. Bitstamp materials have described bank transfers and card purchases, among other methods, but those are dated examples rather than a promise of current availability. A 2023 app announcement listed card, PayPal, bank transfer, Apple Pay, Google Pay and ACH for U.S. users at that time. Bitstamp’s 2023 app announcement
- Choose a purchase route. Use the app’s buy flow for a quick purchase, if offered, or open an XRP market and choose an order type available there. The exact controls may vary. Bitstamp’s older exchange overview described market and limit orders, as well as other order types; check the current interface for what is offered to you. Bitstamp’s exchange overview
- Review the order preview before confirming. Check the XRP amount, quoted price, total cost, payment method and any fees or spread shown. Compare the displayed total with the amount you intended to spend. Current region-specific fees and pricing are not established by the cited older materials, so rely on the live preview and current Bitstamp fee schedule.
- Submit the purchase and check your balance. After you confirm, verify that the transaction completed and that the XRP appears in your account. If it is pending or fails, check the transaction status and any instructions shown by Bitstamp before trying again.
Quick buy or exchange order?
The app’s quick-buy flow and an exchange order are different purchase experiences. Bitstamp’s 2023 app announcement described quick buys with spread-based pricing and said they had no additional trading fees at that time. That historical description does not establish current pricing. Exchange markets may offer order controls such as market or limit orders, but availability depends on the current interface and market.

What fees should you check?
Bitstamp’s applicable trading, payment and XRP withdrawal charges can change. Review the fee schedule that applies to your account and the amounts displayed in the purchase flow. The 2021 exchange overview’s starting trading fee of 0.5% is historical, not a current rate. Likewise, Bitstamp’s 2022 transfer tutorial listed a 0.02 XRP withdrawal fee at that time; do not use it to estimate a withdrawal today. Keep XRP on Bitstamp or withdraw it?
Keeping XRP in your Bitstamp account
If you leave XRP on Bitstamp, the platform holds the assets in exchange custody. This can be convenient for managing them in the account, but you do not personally control the private keys for exchange-held XRP.
Withdrawing to a wallet
Self-custody gives you responsibility for the wallet’s keys and recovery. Before sending XRP, confirm the receiving network, the address and whether the recipient requires a destination tag. A tag helps identify a deposit at services that use shared addresses. Bitstamp’s 2022 tutorial warns: “Failing to provide the correct destination tag, whenever it is required, may result in a permanent loss of the XRP transferred.” Follow the recipient’s current deposit instructions and double-check the details before sending. A hardware wallet is optional; you do not need one to buy XRP on Bitstamp. If you choose self-custody, verify that the specific wallet currently supports XRP and understand its setup, recovery and network requirements. Bitstamp’s storage guide discusses XRP storage and hardware wallets, but does not establish current compatibility for a particular model.
