Open Discord’s Discover tab and choose Servers to browse communities or search by keyword—if those options are available in your app. Discord’s documentation describes changing, experimental availability, so the same search controls may not appear for every account. If you can’t find the server, ask its owner or a member for an invite link and join through Discord’s Join a Server flow.
Search for a server in Discord’s Discover tab
- Open Discover. On desktop, Discord’s support article places the Discover icon at the bottom of the server list. On mobile, it describes the icon at the bottom of the app. The control may not be available to every account. Discord’s Server Discovery guide notes that its discovery experiment ended, while its Discover Tab guide describes experimental access.
- Choose Servers if Discover offers that section. You can browse interest categories; names and availability may change.
- Search by keyword if a search box appears. Use terms that describe the community or interest, such as a game or music genre. Discord’s Discover Tab guide says server search was desktop-only during the experimental phase it documents, so do not expect the same search box on every device.
- Check the server before joining. If Discord offers a preview, review its public channels to see whether it is the community you want. Preview availability can vary.
Discord’s Server Discovery documentation still describes category and keyword search, but also says the experiment ended. Its Discover Tab documentation describes experimental access and a desktop-only search option during that phase. These pages do not establish that all users currently have the same controls; use the steps above only if they match your app.
Join with an invite if search is missing or the server is private
If you know which server you want but cannot find it in Discover—or Discover is not available—ask the server owner or a member for an invite link. Discord says invite-only is the default access setting. To use an invite:
- Select the plus or add-server control in Discord.
- Choose Join a Server.
- Paste the invite link and follow the prompt to join.
Discord’s joining guide documents this flow. The link must be valid; if it does not work, ask the person who shared it for a current invite.

Why can’t I find a Discord server?
- Discover or search is unavailable to your account. Discord describes discovery access as experimental and its support pages do not confirm a uniform current rollout.
- The server is invite-only. A server that is not discoverable will not necessarily appear in search; request an invite from its owner or a member.
- It is a Community server, but not discoverable. Community status does not automatically make a server public or searchable. Discord says eligible servers can choose discoverable access if they meet its criteria. Its Clarifying Server Types article puts it plainly: “Becoming a Community Server does not mean that anyone can find or join your server.”
Discord’s Server Member Applications guide describes invite-only, application, and discoverable access options. If you cannot find a server, an invite is the practical route unless its owner has made it discoverable.
