For a box, switch to its TV input; for app-based channels, open the service’s app and check the live-channel guide.
Start by identifying where the channels come from
The right fix depends on the signal source. A channel scan searches for broadcasts received by the TV’s tuner; it does not restore channels delivered through a separate receiver or streaming app.

Restore antenna or direct-cable channels
Check the connection
Make sure the coax cable is firmly attached to the TV’s antenna input and to the antenna or wall outlet. An antenna is relevant to over-the-air broadcasts; it will not bring back channels supplied by a set-top box or an app. LG’s antenna setup guidance covers connecting an antenna and running Auto Tuning.
Run the TV’s automatic channel search
Open the TV’s channel setup and start an automatic search. Depending on the brand and software, it may be called Auto Tuning, Auto Channel, or Auto Program. On LG TVs running webOS 6.0 or later, the example path is All Settings → General → Channels → Channel Tuning → Auto Tuning → Start. Older versions and other brands may use different menus, so consult the manual for your exact model if the labels do not match.

A scan can find channels the TV is able to receive, but it cannot guarantee every expected channel will appear. LG lists deleted channels, changed frequencies, and cable-provider channel reorganizations among possible reasons channels go missing. Its missing-channel guidance recommends an automatic search and checking the connection.
Restore channels from a set-top box
- Turn on the cable or satellite box.
- On the TV, press Input or Source.
- Select the HDMI or other input port to which the box is connected.
- If the box’s picture appears but its channels are still unavailable, check the box and service with your cable or satellite provider.
A TV tuner scan is not the fix for channels delivered by an external box. LG’s guidance for set-top-box viewers is to select the box’s input and contact the service provider if the problem continues.

Restore app-based channels and live guides
Open the provider’s app
Launch the app that supplies the channels and check whether it opens and displays its live content. On Android TV, watching live TV from a particular provider may require installing that provider’s app. Google also describes free live channels available through Google TV in the United States without installing an app, signing up, or subscribing, alongside channels from apps including Haystack News, Plex, Pluto TV, and Tubi. What is available depends on location and provider; see Google’s live-TV guidance.
Check the TV’s channel guide settings
If the app works but channels are missing from the TV’s guide, check whether the app or source has been added and whether the channels are hidden in the guide’s customized list. Google’s Android TV instructions for app and tuner channels explain how to select a source and customize which channels appear. Guide controls and available sources may differ by TV and region.

If the scan finds nothing or channels remain missing
- Confirm the TV is using the source that actually supplies the channels: tuner, external input, or app.
- For tuner channels, recheck the coax connection and whether the antenna or cable signal is reaching the TV.
- Ask the broadcaster, cable provider, satellite provider, or building management whether the signal, service, or channel lineup has changed.
- If an automatic search does not restore tuner channels, treat it as a possible signal or provider issue rather than repeatedly scanning. LG says persistent symptoms after an automatic search likely indicate that the broadcast signal is not being received.
