Claude plans differ in relative usage allowances, reset rules, and whether limits apply to an individual or to each organization member—not in a guaranteed number of prompts. Pro has both a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit; Max offers 5× or 20× Pro’s allowance, while Team has separate Standard and Premium seat allowances. Your actual message capacity depends on what you ask Claude to do.

Why Claude does not have one reliable message count per plan
Anthropic says usage varies with the length of your messages and attachments, how long the conversation has become, which model and features you use, and how much work Claude performs. Research, web search, tool use, Artifact creation, and multi-step tasks such as running code or creating files can consume usage differently from short exchanges. Reused project content is cached and counts less against limits.

That means a quoted “messages per session” estimate is not a promise: two people on the same plan can reach a limit after different amounts of work. Compare the published allowance multiples and reset rules instead. Check Settings > Usage for your account’s session and weekly progress and the next weekly reset time.
How Pro’s session and weekly limits work
Pro combines a session-based limit, which resets every five hours, with a separate weekly limit that applies across all models. The weekly reset time is assigned to each account and stays the same regardless of when the subscription started. How Max compares with Pro
Max is an individual plan with two published tiers: Max 5x provides five times Pro’s usage allowance, and Max 20x provides twenty times Pro’s allowance. Anthropic’s comparison describes allowance multiples, not a guaranteed number of prompts. The reviewed official page lists web-subscription prices of $100 per month for Max 5x and $200 per month for Max 20x, with monthly-only billing at the time checked. Mobile pricing may differ. How Team allowances work
Team separates usage by seat type. Standard seats have 1.25 times Pro’s per-session allowance; Premium seats have 6.25 times Pro’s per-session allowance. Each member has an individual allowance rather than drawing from one shared team message pool, and weekly limits apply across models. The weekly reset is assigned to the account.

In the U.S., the reviewed official guidance lists Standard at $25 per member monthly or $20 per member monthly with annual billing. Premium is $125 per member monthly or $100 per member monthly with annual billing. These prices are before applicable taxes. What Enterprise users should check
Enterprise does not have one universal limit or price in the reviewed guidance. Anthropic distinguishes usage-based Enterprise, which is billed according to consumption and has no specific usage limits in its usage guidance, from seat-based Enterprise, where usage is monitored. Confirm your organization’s arrangement rather than applying Pro, Max, or Team assumptions. The usage guidance covers the distinction.

Claude Code and API usage are different billing paths
Claude Code use on Pro or Max shares the plan’s Claude usage allowance. That is separate from Console API usage, which is billed separately from the subscription. If you use coding tools, check which authentication and billing path your setup uses; a Pro or Max subscription limit does not make API consumption part of the subscription. Anthropic explains this in its guide to using Claude Code with Pro or Max.
How to check your own remaining usage
- Open Claude and go to Settings > Usage.
- Review session and weekly usage progress. Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise users can see these indicators.
- Check the displayed next weekly reset time if you are near the account’s weekly limit; it is account-assigned, not based on your subscription anniversary.
