Jake Reinhold’s claudecookie.com turns three browser-oriented Claude cookie utilities—conversion, session checking, and Claude Code credential-file generation—into callable JSON endpoints that do not require an API key. That makes scripting possible, but it does not make every operation local: the project README says conversion stays in the browser, while checking and credential generation send the cookie to the service and Anthropic.
What problem does the API address?
Reinhold describes a format mismatch: “the browser stores your login as a sessionKey cookie, but Claude Code wants ~/.claude/.credentials.json.” The utility bridges those formats and provides related session tools. Its documentation also refers to sessionKeyV3.
The project offers the same three functions through an interactive website and through HTTPS JSON routes. The API is described by the developer as requiring no API key and allowing wildcard CORS, so a script can call it from a range of origins without first managing a separate API credential. This convenience does not remove the need to protect the live Claude session cookie itself.
What the three endpoints do
| Endpoint | Purpose | Documented constraints | Cookie data flow |
|---|---|---|---|
/api/v1/convert |
Convert among Netscape cookies.txt, Cookie-Editor JSON, Puppeteer format, key-value pairs, and a raw Cookie header. |
The README documents conversion of up to 40 cookie sets in one paste. The author publishes a limit of 60 requests per minute per IP, alongside the shared API limit. | The README describes conversion as staying in the browser; it is not sent to the service for conversion. |
/api/v1/check |
Check whether a session is active and show account plan and usage windows. | Up to 10 cookies in one request. The author publishes a limit of 20 requests per minute per IP, alongside the shared API limit. | The README says the pasted cookie is encrypted in the browser and then sent to the service and Anthropic. |
/api/v1/credential |
Generate the ~/.claude/.credentials.json file Claude Code reads. |
One cookie set per request. The README says Free accounts cannot mint credentials. The author publishes limits of 5 requests per minute and 20 per hour per IP, plus 3 per hour per sessionKey, alongside the shared API limit. |
The README says the cookie is encrypted in the browser and then sent to the service and Anthropic. It says the response is returned to the user and tokens are not stored on the server. |
These data-flow statements are the project’s own documentation, not an independent security audit. The source materials do not establish the implementation through independent verification.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Published API limits
Jake Reinhold’s 2026 documentation publishes these limits. They are project-stated thresholds, not independently load-tested performance results.
| Scope | Published limit |
|---|---|
All /api/v1/* routes |
10 requests per second per IP, with a burst allowance of 20. |
POST /convert |
60 requests per minute per IP. |
POST /check |
20 requests per minute per IP. |
POST /credential |
5 requests per minute and 20 per hour per IP; 3 per hour per sessionKey. |
A rate-limited response carries a Retry-After header with the wait time in seconds. Limits and batch sizes can change; check the project’s current documentation before building a workflow that depends on them.

Browser interface or JSON API?
These are two ways to use the same utilities, not competing products. The browser interface suits a one-off paste-and-download task. The API is for calling the operations from scripts or other software. Choose based on automation needs and, especially for check and credential requests, whether the documented data flow is acceptable for the cookie involved.
- Use the browser interface when you want an interactive workflow and need to convert formats without sending the cookie to the service for conversion.
- Use the API when you need to integrate the documented operations into a script and can work within the published rate and batch limits.
- Do not treat the API as a local-only route for session checks or credential generation: the README says those operations transmit the cookie to the service and Anthropic.
Security and affiliation
A live session cookie can grant access to an account, so handle it as a credential. Reinhold’s warning is direct: “Treat a live session cookie like a password: only paste a session you control.” Avoid sharing it, logging it, or placing it in a script or repository where others can read it.

Reinhold says the project is not made by or endorsed by Anthropic; the repository likewise describes it as independent and not connected to Anthropic. The README says tokens are not stored on the server, but that is a project claim rather than an independently verified security finding. The available materials do not establish a broader security audit or independently confirm the live service’s current handling.

The primary sources are Reinhold’s article and the project README. They document the tool’s functions, routes, limits, and stated data flow. The live site and linked OpenAPI document were not independently fetched for this coverage, so present availability and endpoint behavior are not independently confirmed.
