It linked application behavior to the server, storage and network resources supporting it, helping administrators find bottlenecks, troubleshoot incidents, plan capacity and manage service levels across physical and virtual environments.
What was Akorri BalancePoint?
BalancePoint was designed to give data-center teams a view across infrastructure domains rather than leaving them to diagnose an application problem from storage or server metrics alone. Dell described it as an “agentless virtual appliance management solution” for improving visibility, troubleshooting problems and optimizing performance and capacity utilization across applications, servers and storage.
NetApp completed its acquisition of Akorri Networks on February 1, 2011, for approximately $60 million. NetApp said BalancePoint would extend its OnCommand management software with performance and capacity analytics and optimization spanning applications, servers, networks and storage. How did BalancePoint balance application resources?
BalancePoint mapped dependencies between applications and the server and storage resources assigned to them, then analyzed how resource changes could affect application operations. That cross-domain mapping was intended to help teams see whether an application issue related to constrained or underused infrastructure and understand the potential effect of adding capacity or changing the environment.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Its intended uses included:
- Identifying performance bottlenecks and troubleshooting incidents.
- Improving infrastructure and storage utilization.
- Planning capacity and considering the application impact of resource changes.
- Monitoring service levels across physical and virtual environments.
The concept was holistic rather than narrowly storage-focused. Akorri founder and CTO Richard Corley described the need to bring server and storage information together to manage a data center.
What environments did it support?
Compatibility varied by report and product era. A 2007 technical report listed the following supported environments; it also said Linux server support was planned, not established as available at that time. Network World’s 2007 report

What happened to Akorri after NetApp acquired it?
NetApp’s February 1, 2011 acquisition brought Akorri into NetApp’s management-software strategy. The announcement positioned BalancePoint as an addition to OnCommand. The available historical record establishes that acquisition and the product’s stated role at that time; it does not establish a currently sold BalancePoint edition, an active support lifecycle or an officially named successor. A present-day product should not be identified as BalancePoint’s successor without current vendor documentation.

Did Dell sell Akorri BalancePoint?
Dell had a channel relationship with Akorri: a 2008 reseller announcement addressed BalancePoint use with Dell CLARiiON and EqualLogic PS arrays. That supports describing Dell as a reseller or channel partner in that historical context, not as the owner of Akorri. NetApp—not Dell—completed the acquisition of Akorri Networks in 2011. Dell’s historical announcement quoted Akorri CEO Tom Joyce describing the product’s value to Dell customers.

The cited historical sources do not confirm current availability, support, or a named successor. If evaluating a modern capacity- or infrastructure-management platform as an alternative, verify current vendor documentation for application-to-infrastructure dependency mapping, collection method, physical and virtual coverage, capacity forecasting, supported storage arrays and hypervisors, incident troubleshooting, service-level features and support lifecycle. Similar goals alone do not establish that a product is a direct successor.
