Felix ZHU says a shift from AI-tool reviews to free interactive calculators took his site from 12 visitors a day to about 150 a day in three months. That is a self-reported result, not an independently verified SEO benchmark—but the case study offers a useful, concrete look at what he built, how he connected the tools, and where his approach has limits.

Why he replaced some articles with interactive tools

Before the pivot, ZHU says he had published more than 30 articles about AI tools over six months and was getting 12 visitors a day. He concluded that some searchers wanted to do a calculation, not read an article explaining one. His example: someone searching for “SaaS revenue calculator” may want to enter numbers and get an answer.

That distinction is the core of the strategy: make a page that completes the task implied by a query. It is a rationale for choosing what to build, not a guarantee that a calculator will rank or attract traffic. ZHU says he now checks for search demand first; he cites rejecting an invoice number generator after finding what he described as effectively no search volume. No keyword-tool data is supplied for that example or for the other tool ideas.

What the 14 calculators do

ZHU groups his tools into SaaS metrics, marketing and advertising, and AI and developer utilities. The inventory he lists is:

  • SaaS metrics: SaaS Revenue Calculator, MRR Growth Calculator, CAC Calculator, Churn Rate Calculator, LTV:CAC Calculator, and Profit Margin Calculator.
  • Marketing and advertising: ROAS Calculator, ROI Calculator, Conversion Rate Calculator, Email Open Rate Calculator, CPM Calculator, and UTM Builder.
  • AI and developer tools: AI Tool ROI Calculator and Stripe MCP Config Validator.

The case study says the calculators use plain HTML and JavaScript without a backend, took two to four hours each to build, and were deployed on Cloudflare Pages at no charge. Those are details of ZHU’s own implementation, not a universal estimate of development time or hosting cost.

What results he reports—and what they establish

ZHU reports that daily visitors rose from 12 to roughly 150 over three months. He also says target keywords reached page one or two, tool pages had a 35% bounce rate and a 2:40 average session, and calculator pages achieved “10x the engagement” of blog posts. The article does not name the keywords, define its engagement measure, provide measurement dates or methods, or include analytics exports. Treat all of these as the author’s account, not independently confirmed results or proof that the calculators caused the increase.

The useful takeaway is narrower: ZHU says the tool-first experiment coincided with more traffic and stronger engagement on his site. The available figures are not enough to estimate likely results for another site or isolate the effect of any one tactic.

How he connected the tools and marked up the pages

Related-tool links

ZHU says each calculator links to five or six related tools. He reports that adding a “More Free Tools” grid doubled internal traffic within a week, but provides no underlying measurements. The practical idea is to help a visitor move from one related calculation to another; the reported increase should not be taken as a general expected result.

Structured data

He says the pages use WebApplication and FAQPage JSON-LD, while the MCP validator uses HowTo schema. He attributes rich snippets appearing within two weeks to FAQ schema. The case study does not establish that the markup caused those search results, so structured data is best understood here as a practice he used, not a demonstrated ranking or display guarantee.

Local processing and privacy claims

ZHU describes the AI ROI Calculator and MCP Config Validator as processing inputs in the browser and displaying “100% Local · No Sign-up.” The article does not include a technical audit of data handling. A page’s privacy wording alone is not evidence of how every input is processed; users handling sensitive information should look for a clear, technically supported explanation on the tool itself.

The important limitation in the AI subscription ROI calculator

The most useful methodological caveat in the account concerns attributing savings to individual AI subscriptions. ZHU says allocating a total time-savings estimate among tools in proportion to their subscription prices is mathematically convenient but logically weak: a more expensive subscription does not necessarily save more time. He calls the resulting individual-tool ROI labels a rough approximation and says isolating one tool’s effect would require separate A/B testing.

That limitation matters because a calculator can produce a precise-looking number from assumptions that are not precise. Treat its individual subscription comparisons as directional estimates, not proof that one service caused a specific amount of saved time or money.

Monetization and what remains a plan

ZHU says the free tools had no direct revenue at the time of the article. He mentions a Stripe MCP Prompt Pack listed at a one-time price of $19, but its current availability and price are not verified. Affiliate links, additional paid templates, and a newsletter are described as future or adjacent plans; the account does not establish that affiliate placements were available or generating revenue.

His stated roadmap includes a break-even calculator for new products, an email subject-line scoring tool, and a pricing-page analyzer, with an intention to add one or two calculators per month. These are plans rather than confirmed releases.

What another site can reasonably learn from the experiment

  • Match the page to the task. If a query implies a calculation or configuration, consider whether a working tool would satisfy the need more directly than an explanatory article alone.
  • Check demand before building. ZHU describes using search demand as a filter, but his examples do not include independently checkable volume data.
  • Make related next steps easy to find. Linking neighboring tools is a sensible navigation choice; the claimed traffic effect is specific to his account.
  • State assumptions and limits beside the result. Especially for ROI estimates, disclose what is measured, what is assumed, and what cannot be attributed confidently.
  • Separate useful outcomes from causal claims. The reported traffic and engagement changes are interesting, but without measurement details they do not show which individual tactic made the difference.

The case study is most useful as an example of product-shaped content: a page can answer a search by letting someone complete the task immediately. Its numbers are worth reading as one publisher’s reported experience, not as a forecast for calculator SEO.
