Reviews disagree on whether the open-world design adds enough to the driving.
What kind of PS5 racing game is Infinite Rush?
Hot Wheels Infinite Rush launched on PS5 on September 10, 2026, according to the US PlayStation Store listing, which also marks the game as PS5 Pro Enhanced. Its defining change is structure: instead of keeping players mainly on a sequence of circuits, it sets races and other activities across four explorable, toy-scale islands.

Game Director Domenico Celenza described it in Xbox Wire as “a high-speed arcade racing experience set in dynamic, freely explorable environments,” while framing the worlds as recreations at Hot Wheels scale. That is the official pitch, not an independent assessment of how engaging the islands are to drive through.
Does the open world improve the racing?
The design decision is the main reason to choose this entry—or to hesitate. Exploration gives players room to roam between races and find activities and collectibles. The trade-off is that an open map can dilute the concentrated rhythm of a track-focused racer if driving around does not feel rewarding in its own right.

Reviews reflect that divide. Stephen Tailby’s PS5 Standard Edition review for Push Square, published September 6, 2026 for the European version, argues that the open-world addition feels unnecessary after the Unleashed games and finds the islands unmemorable. Tailby also credits the series’ strong handling, which carries over here. Press Play Media’s September 8 review is more upbeat about the colorful environments, accessible racing, and vehicle detail, but notes repetitive events and loading interruptions. These are individual critics’ impressions, not a shared verdict.
Choose this structure if the idea of exploring between races is part of the appeal. If you primarily want a focused sequence of track races, the reviews’ concerns about island distinction and repeated events are reasons to be cautious.

The game director says the launch collection includes more than 150 vehicles divided into four classes, alongside races, free-roaming activities, hidden collectibles, and discoveries. Those are official product details; they do not establish how long the activities remain fresh. Press Play Media praises the vehicle-class variety and car detail while reporting that events can become repetitive.

The collection is likely to matter most to players who enjoy unlocking and trying different vehicles. The available evidence does not establish a completion time or how much variety each class creates during play, so the vehicle count alone is not a guarantee of a deep racing loop.

Can you play with friends?
Yes. The PS5 listing includes local split-screen for up to four players and online multiplayer with cross-play for up to 12 players. Online play requires a PlayStation Plus subscription; online play is optional. Press Play Media highlights split-screen as a positive, while also reporting restrictions around multiplayer progression. Players primarily buying for a shared campaign or unrestricted group progression should take that caveat seriously.
The PlayStation Store also lists support for DualSense vibration and trigger effects and optional in-game purchases. The listing does not make online access a prerequisite for playing solo.

Is Hot Wheels Infinite Rush worth it on PS5?
It is easiest to recommend to Hot Wheels fans who want a large vehicle collection, colorful toy-scale settings, accessible arcade racing, and the option to explore or play locally with others. Its appeal is less certain for players who want a consistently varied, tightly focused racing campaign: one review questions the need for the open world, and another reports repetition and loading interruptions. Consider the Standard edition first if the exploration-and-racing mix is what you want; the available evidence does not establish a reason to pay more for Deluxe or Ultimate.
