Hos OS is a 64-bit Linux distribution whose current 4.x line is described by its developer as based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. It aims to simplify the desktop with an applications drawer, Catapult search, and bundled maintenance and backup tools. Whether it is a good fit depends on your hardware and comfort with a project whose current image details and update policy are not clearly established in its published pages.
What is Hos OS?
Hos OS is a Linux distribution developed by Hunter Null. The project describes it as lightweight and intended for new and average users. Its website identifies the current release line as Hos OS 4.x, based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, also known as Jammy Jellyfish. These are the project’s descriptions, not independent performance findings. Cleanup, storage, and backups
Hos OS advertises a system cleaner and storage organizer for identifying large files and removing unneeded ones. It also lists Déjà Dup for system backups and says backups can be uploaded to Google Drive. The project describes layout adaptation for desktop and touch use, along with file-compression features. Hos OS is 64-bit only. The publisher says it will not work on 32-bit hardware. Meeting the listed minimums does not establish that a particular computer will feel responsive for a given workload.
How should you assess its Ubuntu base and support?
Canonical lists Ubuntu 22.04 LTS as released in April 2022, with standard security maintenance through May 2027 and expanded security maintenance through May 2032 through Ubuntu Pro. The available Hos OS pages identify its base and 4.x line but do not establish the exact current image build or publication date, checksum, project-specific support schedule, or how it handles upstream package updates. Nor do they establish whether its image tracks the latest Ubuntu 22.04 point release. Check the project’s live download or release materials for dated image and checksum information before installing.
Should you try Hos OS?
Hos OS may suit someone who wants a Linux desktop with a categorized app drawer and bundled search, cleanup, storage, and backup tools, and whose computer meets the project’s stated requirements. The deciding trade-off is how much confidence you need in release documentation: the project pages reviewed here do not establish a dated current image, checksum, or its own update and support policy.

If you compare it with another desktop Linux distribution, examine its stated base and release policy, dated images and checksums, hardware compatibility, desktop workflow, installation and recovery documentation, and the evidence behind performance claims. No sourced, like-for-like benchmark establishes that Hos OS is faster than another distribution.

The Hos OS download page says the system can boot from a USB drive. It also warns that installing erases data on the selected hard drive or SSD, and that unsaved data on a live USB is deleted when the USB is unplugged. - Confirm compatibility and the image. Check that the computer is 64-bit and review the live Hos OS download or release information for the image and any checksum before writing installation media.
- Back up important files. Save anything you need from the computer and from the USB drive elsewhere. The project’s installation warning says the chosen internal drive or SSD is erased.
- Create bootable USB media. Use a USB flash drive as installation media. Hos OS does not specify a required capacity, model, or brand in the cited instructions.
- Boot from USB and verify the target. Start the computer from the USB drive and make sure the intended hard drive or SSD is selected before installing. Do not unplug the USB while you still need data that has not been saved elsewhere.
