HONOR’s Robot Phone is no longer just a teaser: the company announced its launch on August 12, 2026, after previewing it at MWC in March. Its defining feature is a motorized gimbal camera that HONOR says can move to track a subject, including during video calls and recording. That is automatic camera tracking—not evidence that the phone continuously watches or surveils people. HONOR’s announcements do not explain the camera’s recording indicators, privacy controls, or data retention.
What is the HONOR Robot Phone?
It is a smartphone built around a mechanically moving rear camera. Rather than relying only on software stabilization or asking the user to reposition the phone, its integrated gimbal can pan and tilt the camera. HONOR presented the device at MWC on March 1, 2026, as an exploration of embodied AI interaction, camera movement, and spatial awareness; on August 12, 2026, it announced the launch configuration and China sales schedule. HONOR’s MWC announcement and launch announcement provide the company’s descriptions.
The idea first appeared publicly as a prototype teaser in October 2025. At that point, the reported mechanism was described as a three-axis gimbal. The later launch announcement describes an ultra-compact 4-DoF system, so the prototype teaser should not be mistaken for the final announced specification. HotHardware’s October 2025 report documents that earlier stage.
What does “watches autonomously” mean?
HONOR’s stated use is camera movement and tracking: the phone can automatically pan and tilt to keep a subject in frame, and the company describes tracking during recording, video calls, vlogging, and livestreaming. It also lists movement tracking, sound recognition, and voice-source localization. Those are features for framing or directing the camera; they do not establish continuous monitoring of people.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
The announcements do not provide enough detail to assess privacy implementation. They do not specify recording indicators, privacy controls, retention behavior, or exactly when perception and tracking are active. Buyers who need those answers should look for device-specific documentation before relying on the phone in sensitive settings. HONOR describes the capabilities in its MWC preview and launch announcement.
How the moving camera and tracking are supposed to work
Gimbal mechanism
HONOR calls the mechanism a Titanium Agile Gimbal and says it contains more than 100 precision components, including a 2.6-gram titanium gimbal motor. The company claims control speeds of up to 360 degrees per second. It also says that, compared with “mainstream gimbals,” the system is 65% smaller overall and has 200% greater structural strength. These are HONOR’s 2026 specifications and comparisons; the announcement does not provide an independent test or define a comparison benchmark.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Tracking and gesture controls
HONOR says AI Subject Tracking can keep a person in frame, while gesture recognition can deploy the camera arm and capture shots. Its software feature list includes YOYO Robot Mode, multimodal perception, contextual understanding, and an open Agent Skills interface for developers. The launch announcement does not independently establish how reliably tracking works, which apps support it, or whether every feature is available in every region.
Movement modes
The announced camera modes include Tilt Lock, First Person View, FPV Vertical, and AI SpinShot. HONOR also described SpinShot and video-call tracking in the earlier MWC preview. These names indicate camera behaviors and movement options, but the company’s announcements are not a substitute for hands-on testing of how smoothly or consistently each mode performs.

| 16GB RAM, 1TB storage | RMB 12,999 |

What to compare before choosing a camera phone
The distinctive proposition is putting a moving gimbal camera inside a smartphone. Compared with an ordinary phone camera, the useful questions are whether the mechanical movement gives you framing control you will actually use, whether tracking supports your preferred recording or calling apps, and whether the moving assembly suits your durability and repairability needs. The cited announcements do not establish repairability or durability through independent testing.
A dedicated pocket gimbal camera is another relevant category: it is designed around camera movement rather than being a general-purpose phone. HotHardware compared the early prototype’s form and function with the DJI Osmo Pocket category, but that comparison is not a controlled performance result and does not show that either device takes better footage. For image quality, stabilization, tracking, size, price, and local availability, compare specific models using independent tests and current regional listings.
