Neither game is an objectively better choice for every player. Honor of Kings and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang are both free-to-play, mobile 5v5 MOBAs. Start with the game available in your region and the one your friends play; then compare their heroes, competitive communities, and feel for yourself before spending money.
How are Honor of Kings and Mobile Legends alike?
Both use the familiar mobile MOBA format: teams of five choose heroes, fight across lanes, and push toward the opposing base. Honor of Kings’ official description calls out roles and a three-lane map, while its Google Play listing describes team battles focused on pushing towers.
The store listing promotes Honor of Kings as offering competitive play “in just 15 minutes.” That is promotional copy, not a verified average match length. No equivalent, directly comparable match-duration figure for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is established here, so it would be misleading to use that claim to declare one game faster.

Availability can vary by region. Check your local Apple App Store or Google Play listing for each title before deciding, and ask your friends which one they already play. A game that is easy to install and lets you queue with people you know may be the more practical choice, regardless of global audience claims.

The games also have different release histories. Honor of Kings launched in China in 2015; Level Infinite gives February 23, 2024 as its international release date. MOONTON celebrated Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s tenth anniversary in 2026, placing its launch in 2016. These dates describe different release contexts and should not be collapsed into a simple “older game” comparison.
What do their audience and esports figures tell you?
Both publishers describe substantial audiences, but the available figures use different measures and dates. They cannot establish which game is more active in your region, at your rank, or at the hours you play.

Mobile Legends has a documented international esports presence. MOONTON’s September 2026 announcement describes participation at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games and a planned debut at the 2026 Asian Games. It also reports 5.68 million peak concurrent viewers for the M7 tournament. Those are publisher-reported details about Mobile Legends, not a head-to-head measure of esports reach against Honor of Kings.

How should you compare the gameplay?
Official materials establish the shared 5v5 lane-based structure, but they do not provide controlled comparisons of match feel, learning curve, balance, matchmaking, device performance, or player behavior. Your experience is the useful test for those questions.

- Try the tutorial and several matches in each, ideally with a friend if you can.
- Notice which heroes and roles you want to keep playing, whether the controls feel comfortable, and whether the pace suits you.
- Check how each performs on your own phone or tablet; the Honor of Kings listing identifies both phones and tablets as supported device types.
This is also a better way to judge whether the games are welcoming and active for you than extrapolating from global totals or tournament viewership.

Both are presented as free-to-play, but that does not mean every in-game item or event is free. MOONTON advertises event rewards, passes, and skins for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Honor of Kings’ Google Play listing discloses optional virtual-currency purchases, including random virtual items, and claims there are no additional pay-to-win aspects.

Which MOBA should you choose?
- Choose the one your friends play if playing together is your main priority, after confirming it is available in your region.
- Lean toward Mobile Legends: Bang Bang if its heroes appeal to you or its documented international esports program is a draw.
- Lean toward Honor of Kings if its heroes, three-lane presentation, or local availability suit you better.
- If you are unsure, try both before spending. Controls, match pace, performance, and the community you encounter are personal judgments that publisher figures cannot settle.
