To hide message previews on a Samsung Galaxy lock screen, change the notification-content setting—not necessarily the notification itself. In One UI 8, go to Settings > Notifications > Hide content while locked and choose Hide when locked. You can also hide content for one messaging app only. In One UI 7, the setting is under Settings > Notifications > Lock Screen Notifications; choose Hide content.
Choose whether to hide previews for all apps or one app
Hiding content keeps a lock-screen notification from displaying its message details. It is different from turning off lock-screen notifications: an alert may still appear even when its text is hidden. If you want to limit the change to a particular messaging app, use the per-app option available in One UI 8. Samsung’s One UI 8 notification guide documents both controls.
Hide message content in One UI 8
Hide content for all apps
- Open Settings and tap Notifications.
- Tap Hide content while locked.
- Select Hide when locked. Choose Show always only if you want notification content visible on the lock screen.
Hide content for one messaging app
- Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- Select the messaging app.
- Tap Show or hide content when locked.
- Select Hide when locked.
Hide message content in One UI 7
- Open Settings > Notifications > Lock Screen Notifications.
- Choose Hide content.
Samsung also describes choosing Show content and using its settings control to select which apps can show lock-screen notifications. The menu location changed in One UI 7, according to Samsung’s One UI 7 lock-screen notification instructions.

If you want no notifications on the lock screen
Hiding content conceals details; it does not necessarily remove the notification alert. Samsung’s US lock-screen support page describes choosing a lock-screen notification display type, but the exact steps to disable all lock-screen notifications are not established consistently across software versions. Check the lock-screen notification controls on your phone and distinguish the display setting from the content-hiding option.

When the setting is missing or a preview remains
- The menu path differs: Samsung documents different paths for One UI 7 and One UI 8. Search Settings for “lock screen” or “hide content” if the listed labels do not appear. Samsung’s One UI 7 overview discusses the updated interface.
- One app still shows message details: In One UI 8, check that app’s setting under Settings > Notifications > App notifications and confirm Hide when locked is selected.
- You still see an alert: That can be expected when content is hidden but notifications remain enabled for the lock screen. Look for the separate lock-screen notification display control if you want to suppress alerts rather than just their text.
Names and locations can vary by Galaxy model and software version, so the Settings search is a practical fallback when a path does not match your phone.
