Use WebdriverIO visual service’s hideElements option to make a navbar invisible in a screenshot while preserving the space it occupies. Use removeElements instead when the page should close that space and let content shift upward.
Hide the navbar but keep its space
Pass the resolved navbar element in the method’s hideElements array. The visual-testing method applies visibility: hidden, so the navbar is not visible in the screenshot but remains in the layout.

})header nav is an example CSS selector. Replace it with a locator that uniquely identifies the navbar in your application. WebdriverIO uses CSS selector patterns by default when no other selector strategy is specified; see WebdriverIO selectors.
Remove the navbar and its layout space
If you want the page content to move into the space previously occupied by the navbar, use removeElements. The documented behavior applies display: none.

Both are method options documented for WebdriverIO visual screenshot methods. Check the documentation for the @wdio/visual-service version installed in your project and the specific capture method you use.
Apply the option to the right screenshot scope
WebdriverIO visual testing supports comparisons for screens, elements, and full-page captures. Keep the assertion’s capture scope aligned with the page region you intend to compare. The hide-or-remove choice still controls whether the navbar’s layout space remains; for full-page captures, inspect the selected method’s options and how the page behaves as it is captured.

Reduce avoidable rendering differences
Navbar visibility is only one factor in a screenshot comparison. The visual service documents these relevant options and defaults:
waitForFontsLoadeddefaults totrue, helping the capture wait for fonts.hideScrollBarsdefaults totrue.disableCSSAnimationis available and defaults tofalse. Enable it if CSS motion makes the captured state inconsistent with the comparison you want.

Common problems and fixes
- The navbar still appears: Check that the selector matches the intended element and that the resolved element is passed in the array. Prefer a selector that uniquely identifies the navbar.
- The content shifts unexpectedly: You may be using
removeElements, which appliesdisplay: none. Switch tohideElementsto preserve the navbar’s layout space. - A blank gap remains: That is expected with
hideElements. UseremoveElementsif the screenshot should reclaim the space. - The comparison changes despite hiding the navbar: Check font loading, scrollbars, and CSS animations, then verify the capture method and options supported by your installed visual-service version.
