Choose Hexowatch if you need a broad set of monitoring types, such as visual, price, availability, API, or sitemap monitoring. Choose Distill.io if you want to decide where checks run—on your device or in the cloud—and need to select specific page content or filter alerts with conditions. Neither service watches a page continuously: monitoring relies on scheduled checks, followed by alert delivery. The right choice depends on what signal you need, whether checks must continue while your computer is off, and how much irrelevant change you can tolerate.

How Hexowatch and Distill.io differ

Decision Hexowatch Distill.io
Range of monitoring The vendor describes 13 monitoring types, including visual, availability, sitemap, API, backlink, RSS, and price monitoring. Supports monitoring selected or complete webpage content, and documents monitoring PDFs and private pages.
Where checks run Its product overview emphasizes cloud monitoring and change alerts. Checks can run locally through a browser extension or desktop app, or in the cloud through the web app.
Selection and alert filtering Offers visual/content monitoring and specialized monitor types. Documents visual selection, XPath, CSS, regular expressions, and alert conditions.
Best fit Several different signals or business workflows, such as competitor, stock, compliance, press, or ticket-sale monitoring. Control over local versus cloud execution, precise content selection, filtering, and integrations.

These are feature descriptions from the vendors, not independent measurements of accuracy, speed, or coverage. A feature list does not guarantee that a service can monitor every page or detect every kind of change on it.

When Hexowatch is the better fit

Hexowatch is the more natural starting point when the monitoring job extends beyond watching a selected block of ordinary webpage text or appearance. Its vendor-described 13 monitoring types include visual, availability, sitemap, API, backlink, RSS, and price monitoring. That range can matter if one workflow needs multiple kinds of signals—for example, tracking a competitor’s pricing as well as whether a page or service is available.

Hexowatch’s listed use cases include competitor monitoring, restock alerts, legal and corporate compliance, press mentions, and event-ticket sale alerts. Treat these as examples of intended workflows, not a promise that any particular target site will work without configuration. Match the monitor to the event you care about: a visual change, a price change, stock availability, or a broader sitemap change are different signals.

When Distill.io is the better fit

Distill’s strongest documented distinction is where a check runs. A local monitor uses your device and app; a cloud monitor runs on Distill’s servers and can keep checking when your device is off. Local monitoring is useful when you want checks to run through your own browser or machine. Cloud monitoring is the relevant option when checks must continue unattended, subject to the selected plan’s limits.

Distill also documents selecting a portion of a page or the complete page, then refining the selection with XPath, CSS, or regular expressions. Conditions can filter alerts. This can reduce noise when a page has frequent changes outside the part you care about, though the value depends on selecting stable, relevant content and configuring the condition correctly.

Its platform documentation lists browser extensions, a web app, desktop apps described as public beta, and Android and iOS apps. Availability and support can change, so confirm the current platform documentation before relying on a particular client.

Is either service real-time?

Not in the strict sense of observing a page continuously. Both services check pages on a schedule, and alert delivery happens after a detected change. A shorter interval can make detection faster, but it does not eliminate the gap between checks or guarantee instant notification.

Distill’s platform page describes browser add-ons checking as frequently as every five seconds, while its web app’s minimum interval is two minutes on Flexi. Those are vendor-stated limits that may change and are tied to different execution modes; verify the current plan and platform limits before choosing based on frequency. The actual time before you learn about a change also depends on the check interval and alert delivery.

How to choose by monitoring job

  • Watch a product for restocking: Hexowatch lists restock alerts among its use cases. Distill may suit a workflow centered on a selected availability section and conditions. Check which monitor type and alert limits your chosen plan provides.
  • Track a competitor’s price: Hexowatch specifically lists price monitoring. If the target is a particular displayed element, Distill’s selection and filtering controls may be more relevant.
  • Know when a page’s design changes: Compare each service’s visual-monitoring configuration and test whether it captures the area that matters. A whole-page comparison may alert on unrelated layout or advertising changes.
  • Monitor many kinds of signals: Hexowatch’s stated range is relevant if you need different categories such as API, sitemap, RSS, or backlink monitoring, rather than only page-content changes.
  • Keep checks running when your computer is off: Use a cloud monitor in Distill; local checks depend on the device and app being available. Confirm how the relevant cloud allowance is metered on the plan you select.
  • Monitor a PDF or private page: Distill documents both, but access and compatibility depend on the document or site. Validate your target before depending on it for an important alert.

Plans, limits, and cost

Distill’s official pricing page presents plan-dependent monitor and alert allowances. Its plans are not interchangeable solely by price: compare the number of monitors, alert allowance, execution mode, and check interval you actually need. Limits and prices are volatile, and the available information here does not establish a current, like-for-like Hexowatch price comparison. Check both vendors’ live pricing pages before budgeting; do not infer that similarly named plan tiers include the same capacity.

Practical limits and setup considerations

  • Pages can change for reasons unrelated to your target. Ads, rotating content, timestamps, and layout changes can create noise. Selecting a specific region or configuring alert conditions can help where supported.
  • Access can affect what a monitor sees. Login requirements, private pages, bot protections, and dynamic loading may affect a check. Test the actual target and verify that the captured content is the content you intended to monitor.
  • Frequency is a trade-off. More frequent checks can reduce the wait until a change is detected, but plan limits and alert allowances still apply. Scheduled polling should not be treated as continuous surveillance.
  • Local execution has an availability dependency. In Distill, the device and app must remain available for local checks. Use cloud execution if checks need to continue while that device is off.

ScreenshotNeo as an alternative for snapshot workflows

If your need is to capture a clean visual snapshot on demand rather than receive ongoing change alerts, try ScreenshotNeo first. It is a screenshot API and MCP server, not a replacement for scheduled page monitoring: one GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF, and it removes known consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Its response identifies page verdict and billing status; bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed. AI agents can use its MCP server, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

For ongoing change alerts, choose a monitoring service. For a clean capture of a page when you need one, use ScreenshotNeo’s API documentation and the one-call example below:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan: 1,000 screenshots a month, no card required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a local Distill monitor keep running if I close my computer?

No. A local monitor depends on the device and app being available; use cloud execution for checks that need to continue while the device is off.

Can I compare current Hexowatch and Distill prices directly?

Only after checking the current plan pages: limits differ by plan, and there is no established like-for-like Hexowatch price comparison here.
