Most Genesis Configuration puzzles in Hellraiser: Revival follow one of three patterns: rotate the box until it matches a carved relief, turn it to move an environmental part such as a wheel or platform, or collect an item and place it before the box can do anything. Work out which pattern you are in by reading the room, then apply the matching solution below.
What the Genesis Configuration does in the game
The Genesis Configuration is both a combat power and the main tool for the game’s environmental puzzles. PlayStation Blog’s pre-release puzzle preview, published in August 2026, describes it as a puzzle box that can channel offensive abilities and that is essential to many environmental puzzles. Assistant Game Director Vid Rajin is quoted there saying: “We use the Genesis Configuration – a puzzle box – at the centre of things.”
The story context matters for the puzzles. The player character is Aidan Lynch. His girlfriend Sunny activates the Genesis Configuration, after which the Cenobites appear, according to PlayStation Blog. The game released on PS5 on October 8, 2026.
General rules for Genesis Configuration puzzles
- Read visual clues first. Paintings, desk diagrams, plaques and reliefs usually show the answer. A diagram is a clue for one lock in one room, not a universal code.
- Check whether you need an item. Statue gates and some lock mechanisms only respond after you have found and placed a missing part.
- Turn back when a room repeats. The house sequence is designed so that pressing forward does not change the setting.
- Match shapes, not just orientation. When a puzzle asks you to rotate the box to a relief, the face layout matters. Use the screenshot in the guide for exact orientations, because they are hard to describe in text.
Early puzzles from the pre-release preview
PlayStation Blog’s preview demonstrated several early puzzles and gave short tips for them. The unofficial Hellraiser Revival Wiki puzzle page corroborates these tips and states that it covers puzzles shown before release, not the full campaign.

The repeating house
The opening house sequence loops. Crooked or distorted photographs and rooms that repeat are the signal that you are in the loop. Turn back instead of continuing forward; that changes the setting and lets you leave the loop.
The Chatterer chase
Chatterer pursues Aidan through the house. Chatterer teleports ahead in most corridors, so look for the one corridor where it does not. Taking that route keeps the chase manageable.
The sliding picture lock
The lock is opened by sliding pieces to match a diagram. Look at the desk where the diagram is displayed. It applies to that lock only, so do not reuse it for other locks in the game.
The wheel-operated walkway
Turning the Genesis Configuration rotates a large wheel. The rotation realigns narrow walkways so you can cross the room. Turn the box in the direction that brings the walkway you need into line.
Statue reliefs
Statue gates need a missing body part plus a matching cube shape. Retrieve the part, then reshape the box to match the statue’s relief, as described in the next section.
Campaign solutions: picture locks, painting and statues
The solutions below are documented in GameSpew’s campaign walkthrough, published October 8, 2026. They are the guide’s steps, not solutions tested independently for this article.
Early picture lock and cabinet
Find the picture of flowers on the study desk. Rotate the sections of the cabinet lock until the filled triangles are centred as shown in the picture. Open the cabinet and take the Marlowe Figurine.
Statue’s Hand
- Turn the winding handle on the gramophone to reveal the Bruno Figurine.
- Place the Bruno and Marlowe figurines on the central stand.
- Collect the Statue’s Hand and the Resurrection Key.
Three-figure painting room
This room is filled with gas. Compare the three statues with the large painting, then adjust each statue to match the pose shown in the painting. When the poses match, an opening appears behind the painting.
Statue gates
Each statue gate needs a specific body part and a matching shape from the Genesis Configuration. The table lists the three gates covered by GameSpew’s walkthrough.

Well and labyrinth picture
Collect the three Puzzle Blocks, from the playground, the boat and the pagoda. Insert them at the well, then rotate the four pieces until they form the image shown in the walkthrough.

Fuse box
Match the cable colours from left to right: red to red, blue to blue, and orange to orange.

Rotate the pieces of the gold door until they complete the image of a woman. Her head and hair should point to the left.
Ear statue pin mechanism
Pull the pins in this order: bottom right, top, middle right, then left. This opens the mechanism and gives you the Embossed Block.
Embossed Block door
Place the Embossed Block on the lock and arrange its pieces so the images match the four artwork clues beside the door, in the order they are displayed. This is a visual matching puzzle. The guide shows the correct ordering in its screenshot rather than in text, so use that image as your reference.
Spirit Warding Bells
First recover the missing Spirit Warding Bell. Then place the bells in the order indicated by the plaque. The guide includes a screenshot of the correct arrangement, which is the reliable reference for the order.

Labyrinth traversal puzzles
The labyrinth combines several mechanics. Each is solved by a different use of the box or the environment.
- Spiked platform: Move the platform with the Genesis Configuration while avoiding the spikes.
- Room sections: Use the blue wall panels to rotate sections of the room into a crossing route.
- Timed door and cubes: Move one cube to hold a timed door open, then position the second cube to make room to pass through.
- Spiked ceiling and floor hazard: Use the Genesis Configuration to hold the spiked ceiling up while you cross the floor hazard.
Where these solutions stop
GameSpew’s walkthrough covers the campaign puzzles listed above. It does not reproduce every face orientation or bell arrangement in text, and the screenshots carry those details. The unofficial wiki’s hints are limited to pre-release puzzles. If a puzzle you are stuck on is not listed here, the environmental rule that applies is the same one used throughout: find the visual clue, check whether a part is missing, and then operate the box to match or move what the clue shows.
Rule-based solutions are the most reliable way to work through the rest of the campaign. A missing screenshot detail is the most common reason a reader cannot complete a shape puzzle, so check the guide’s images before trying a rotation by trial and error.
Coverage of optional puzzles and any later patch changes is limited to what the sources above describe, so treat this list as a documented guide rather than a complete catalogue.
