For solo play, Survival is usually the better starting point if you want to fight AI enemies in waves. Slasher is an adversarial competitive mode built around human opponents, so it depends on finding a suitable lobby. Check the selected job’s in-game settings and current availability: not every Survival has identical solo rules, and past event dates do not confirm what is playable now.
How Slasher and Survival differ

Which mode should you choose?
Choose Survival for solo PvE
Start with Survival if your goal is to take on AI enemies without relying on opposing players. The format gives you a wave-based challenge, but check the chosen job’s player requirements and settings before launching; Rockstar’s notes do not establish one universal solo rule for every Survival.

Choose Slasher for competitive human opponents
Pick Slasher if you want a competitive, asymmetric round and are willing to join a lobby. How the teams work and how readily a match fills can depend on the variant and the players available.

Check both if immediate availability matters
Availability can change with dated or seasonal content. Rockstar’s Title Update 1.71 notes recorded Cayo Perico Survival for August 28 through September 10, 2025, and a Ramius submarine Slasher variation for October 16 through November 6, 2025. Those are historical windows, not a schedule for October 2026. Check the in-game Featured Series and jobs menu for what is currently listed.

Solo access and updates to know about
Rockstar’s 2025 Title Update 1.71 notes say the Survival rank requirement was removed. They also document changes including a fix related to access to owned weapons in Cayo Perico Survival, ammunition restocking on return to Freemode, and a Survival Creator setting for wave preparation time. These changes make Survival more accessible and adjustable, but they do not confirm that every job supports the same solo setup.

There is no current, comparable payout evidence here to establish that one mode earns more. Rockstar said in 2022 that payouts for all then-available Adversary Modes would be boosted by an average of 50%; that historical statement does not establish today’s Slasher payout or apply to Survival rewards. For an earnings decision, check the active weekly multiplier and the specific job in-game.
