Its standout benefit is bidirectional lookup: slide the inner card to find dimensions from a known screw size, or use a measured dimension to help identify a size. It is designed for quick bench-side reference without a phone, battery or open book.
How the screw chart works
The chart uses an opaque sliding card inside a clear plastic sleeve. Moving the card aligns entries in either direction, so a machinist can look up data for a known fastener or work backward from a measurement. Make reviewer Sean Michael Ragan described the chart as about 1/16 inch thick and 8.75 by 11 inches in a 2012 review (Make).
That format favors quick, repeated reference at a workbench. The clear sleeve is intended to resist water and grease, though the available review does not establish a cleaning procedure or quantify its durability over time.
What information is on it?
Front: fasteners and screw selection
The front covers metric and imperial fastener information, including tap and drill data, stress areas, screw and shoulder-screw dimensions, countersinks, counterbores, Allen-key sizes, clearance holes, bolt grades, prefixes and conversions. This makes it particularly relevant for identifying or preparing threaded holes and checking dimensions during shop work.

Back: broader shop references
The reverse side extends beyond screws with sheet-metal and wire gauges, pipe threads, hardness and tensile-strength conversion, rulers, equations, surface finish, GD&T, weld symbols, material densities and steel numbering. Its breadth makes it a compact reference for several routine tasks, but it should not be mistaken for a substitute for the applicable engineering standard or a controlled specification.
Practical strengths and trade-offs
- Fast, two-way lookup: The slide mechanism supports both size-to-data and measurement-to-size searches.
- Wide coverage: It combines fastener information with other shop references in one physical tool.
- No power or screen required: It is useful where a phone or tablet is inconvenient, or where dirt and grease make electronics undesirable.
- Physical-format limits: At 8.75 by 11 inches, it is easy to keep near a bench but larger than a pocket reference. Its plastic construction is described as water- and grease-resistant, not indestructible.
- Currency matters: The available hands-on review dates to 2012. Penn Tool’s current listing includes standards detail, but buyers should verify the chart’s edition and suitability for any safety-critical or tightly controlled work before relying on a value.
In his 2012 review, Ragan said he used it often, especially for tap-drill sizes and nominal pipe diameters (Make). That is a useful illustration of the chart’s intended role: frequent lookup of common shop data, rather than exhaustive engineering documentation.

Price and product identifiers
Penn Tool Co. lists the chart as ENG-CHART1 for $39.95 on its product page, accessed in 2026 (Penn Tool Co.). The identifier is not consistent across listings: Ubuy and an Amazon-linked catalog page identify the product as GIV 07. Check the listing details and identifier with the seller before ordering rather than assuming the codes are interchangeable (Ubuy; Amazon-linked catalog).
Make reported a $24.99 price in 2012; that historical figure is not a current price comparison. Ubuy displays a retailer-reported rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 82 customer ratings, accessed in 2026. The rating is marketplace information, not independently audited product testing (Ubuy).

Who should consider it?
This chart is a sensible fit for machinists, engineers, drafters and workshop users who repeatedly check screw dimensions, tap-drill information or related shop references and prefer a physical tool at hand. It is less compelling for someone who only needs occasional fastener data, already has a trusted digital reference, or requires a verified current standards resource for regulated or high-consequence work. In those cases, confirm the relevant edition and standard directly rather than relying on a general chart.
