Where do I find my GrabzIt Application Key and Secret?
Sign in to your GrabzIt account and obtain the Application Key and Application Secret there. The official API overview identifies both as credentials for API access. Treat the Secret as private: store and use it only in a trusted server environment, not in code sent to a browser.
GrabzIt’s documentation mentions domain and IP restrictions as access controls. The exact configuration interface and any account-specific defaults are not established in the cited setup pages, so check your account settings rather than assuming restrictions are already active.

Set up a server-side client library
GrabzIt provides language guides for Node.js, Python, PHP, ASP.NET, and Java. Their examples initialize a client using the account’s Application Key and Secret. Follow the guide for your language to install or download the library and initialize its client; replace example placeholders with your account credentials.

Keep credentials in server-side configuration that is not included in source files delivered to users. The cited GrabzIt pages do not prescribe a particular secrets manager or deployment-platform storage method, so use the secure configuration method appropriate to your hosting environment. Do not use the Node.js library in client-side JavaScript: GrabzIt documents it as server-side only.
How do I authenticate to the GrabzIt REST API?
Send requests to https://api.grabz.it/convert from your server. The REST guide documents two ways to provide the Application Key.

Key in the query parameters
Include the Application Key as the key parameter, along with the conversion parameters required for your capture. URL-encode parameter values as the REST documentation directs. Avoid putting a credential in a URL that may be recorded in logs or exposed through monitoring; the Bearer-header option avoids placing the key in the query string.
Key in a Bearer authorization header
Alternatively, send the key in an HTTP header in this form: Authorization: Bearer YOUR_APPLICATION_KEY. Continue to make the request from a trusted backend, not from client-side browser code.

Submitting HTML
For HTML conversion, the REST guide specifies an HTTP POST request with the parameters in the request body as key-value pairs and the content type application/x-www-form-urlencoded. URL-encode the values. For ordinary API testing, GrabzIt recommends Postman; the capture is returned in the HTTP response.
Inspecting REST errors
Check the response’s content type. GrabzIt says a response with content type application/json indicates an error and that the returned JSON explains it. Use that response detail to correct the request rather than treating the body as an image or capture.

Can I use my GrabzIt key in JavaScript?
Yes, with GrabzIt’s documented browser JavaScript API, which uses an Application Key to call a conversion method for a URL or HTML. The key is visible to anyone who can inspect the page, so authorize the domains allowed to use it. GrabzIt warns that the JavaScript API will not work unless domains are authorized.
This browser integration is distinct from calling the REST API in browser code: GrabzIt explicitly warns that a client-side REST request exposes the Application Key. Do not put the Application Secret in browser code.

Troubleshoot authentication and setup
- Authentication fails in a library: Confirm that you are using the Application Key and Secret from the account and that the code is running in the server-side environment required by the library.
- A REST request fails: Check that it originates from a server, that the key is sent as either the
keyparameter or Bearer token, and that parameter values are URL-encoded. - HTML conversion does not work: Send an HTTP POST with form-encoded key-value pairs in the body and set
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded. - The response is not an image or capture: Inspect the content type. If it is
application/json, read the error details in the JSON response. - The browser JavaScript API does not run: Check that the current domain is among the domains authorized for the Application Key.
- You are considering IP restrictions: The REST guide recommends authorizing allowed server IP addresses. Verify the setting for your account; the documentation does not establish that all accounts have IP restrictions enabled by default.
