GPD’s MicroPC 2 was offered to Indiegogo backers at $495 for a 16GB RAM, 512GB storage configuration when its campaign opened July 10, 2025, at 02:00 UTC. It pairs an Intel Processor N250 with a 7-inch 1080p touchscreen, a compact backlit QWERTY keyboard, and an unusually broad selection of ports. Its intended strength is carrying a small Windows terminal for field and IT work—not replacing a comfortable everyday laptop.

Price and Indiegogo availability

Notebookcheck reported that the campaign was scheduled to open on July 10, 2025, at 02:00 UTC, with a $495 starting offer for the 16GB RAM/512GB storage configuration. That is a historical crowdfunding offer, not confirmation of a current retail price, inventory, or availability. Notebookcheck’s launch report covered the scheduled campaign details.

Indiegogo backing is not the same as buying an in-stock retail product: fulfillment and delivery are subject to campaign risk. Tom’s Hardware noted that distinction while reporting the campaign had surpassed 6,000% of its funding goal. That funding figure describes campaign support, not a guarantee that every order will be delivered. Tom’s Hardware’s report discusses the campaign context.

What hardware does the MicroPC 2 include?

GPD lists Windows 11, an Intel Processor N250, 16GB of LPDDR5-4800 memory, a 512GB-class M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD, and a 7-inch 1920 × 1080 touchscreen. The display runs at 60Hz and is rated at 500 nits. The keyboard is backlit and QWERTY, and the battery capacity is 27.5Wh. See GPD’s MicroPC 2 specifications.

The N250 is a 4-core, 4-thread processor with a maximum clock speed of 3.8GHz. GPD claimed three times the predecessor’s CPU performance and five times its GPU performance, as reported by Tom’s Hardware; those are manufacturer claims, not independent benchmark results. The available reporting does not establish how the computer performs in particular applications.

Ports, connectivity, and physical design

The MicroPC 2’s port selection suits technicians who need direct connections instead of a bag of adapters. Notebookcheck lists two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, two USB-C ports with DisplayPort and USB Power Delivery, HDMI 2.1, and 2.5Gb Ethernet. Charging is rated at 45W. Liliputing also reports microSD, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth. Port availability makes it practical to connect peripherals and wired networks, but does not change the limits imposed by its small screen and low-power processor.

Can it replace a laptop?

For occasional access to Windows tools in the field, the MicroPC 2 can function as a self-contained mobile computer. Its Ethernet, USB, and video connections are useful for IT administration, engineering tasks, field testing, and support work where a technician may need to connect to equipment or a network. TechRadar’s assessment is that it is better suited to a backup terminal or task-specific business computer than a general-purpose primary PC.

The trade-off is everyday usability. The seven-inch display is sharp and rated at 500 nits, but gives much less working area than a typical laptop screen. The keyboard fits a full QWERTY layout into a very small chassis; TechRadar found it cramped and uncomfortable for extended typing. Its N250 processor and software support also constrain its appeal for demanding or broad general-purpose use. TechRadar’s review discusses these practical limitations.

Keyboard, battery, and SSD upgrade considerations

Keyboard and input

The backlit QWERTY keyboard is valuable when a physical keyboard is essential in a compact deployment, but its presence should not be confused with laptop-like typing comfort. It is best treated as an input option for short commands, maintenance tasks, and brief notes rather than a comfortable surface for hours of writing. The rotating display’s tablet mode offers another way to use the device, though the cited sources do not establish a particular stylus or handwriting experience.

Battery life

GPD says the 27.5Wh battery can last two to eight hours depending on usage. That is the manufacturer’s workload-dependent estimate, not a standardized independent test result; real runtime will vary with workload and settings. GPD’s listed capacity and other specifications appear on its official MicroPC 2 page.

Storage expansion

The listed M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x4 slot is a standard physical format that may make SSD replacement or expansion possible, but the available specifications do not identify validated drive models or confirm upgrade procedures. Check with GPD or the seller for supported SSDs and service guidance before purchasing a replacement. The listed 512GB-class drive is the campaign configuration, not proof that every capacity or model will work.

Who should consider the MicroPC 2?

  • Good fit: IT administrators, engineers, field testers, and mobile teams who prioritize a very small Windows device with Ethernet, video output, and multiple USB ports.
  • Possible fit: A backup terminal for remote access or occasional maintenance, where portability and direct connectivity matter more than extended typing or large-screen multitasking.
  • Poor fit: Anyone seeking a comfortable primary laptop for long writing sessions, sustained multitasking, or demanding CPU/GPU work.

Before comparing it with another compact computer, weigh keyboard comfort and input method, real-world CPU/GPU performance, display size and hinge flexibility, port selection, SSD expandability, weight and battery behavior, and the purchase’s price, warranty, and fulfillment risk. The MicroPC 2’s strongest differentiator is its combination of pocketable dimensions and built-in networking and I/O; those advantages do not make it a substitute for a larger laptop in every job.
